Hi guys. I'm looking at an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with "Gibson" on the truss rod cover. I ran the serial number and it was made in Korea in January 2001. It's a Honeyburst with the "Plus" top...book-matched tiger-striped maple. It's in excellent shape with only a few minor handling marks...to be expected for the age. Came with original Epi hard case. Just seeking any information that might be helpful. Were these good examples of the Epiphone Les Paul? My son has one just like it....same color and everything....except his truss rod cover reads "Les Paul Standard". His is a later Korean one....I bought it for him new at GC some years back....before Gibson built the Epiphone plant in China. Any opinions on the used one I'm looking at would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

It would be as good as anything else depending on what shape it's in. There are a lot of older MIK's with Gibson on the TRC, it's common. Photos would help!

There's good ones and bad ones and really really bad ones. Just like up players...I'm one of the really really bad ones...play it if you can....also you didn't say how much they wanted for it.

thew MIK Series are usually good--I'd got try it out to make sure--I used to have one of the last MIK's, a sweet alpine white LP Custom, with a darkened rosewood fretboard, I miss that guitar!!

Ive got a `96 MIK with an original Gibson truss rod cover. Its got a few minor marks and a bit of buckle rash but its a great guitar. Changed the pups and rewired to 50`s with a kit. It had SamSung pups in it originally. Paid £200 for it a couple of years ago. Some good, some not so I guess but mine felt right the minute I played it. Heavy though!!

Here is my '99 MIK Les Paul with the Gibson truss rod cover (which doesn't show up well here unless you zoom in on the picture). The wiring has been changed, the PU's are Gibson BB1 and BB2. Tail piece and bridge are now nickel as well. It's a great sounding guitar.

Here's my new toy. :)

The first picture sort of makes it look like a cherryburst, but it's really a honeyburst....

I'll probably upgrade the electronics and pickups...always wanted an LP with some kind of zebra humbuckers. :)

I dig the top. And Ive always liked that color! Congrats!

Thanks standard man! To be honest, I was just a little bit surprised when I got to the guys house, opened the case, and it was a honeyburst. From the picture, I was thinking it was a cherryburst. The pics I posted were from the seller. My sons Epi LP Standard is the same top as this one, but his is a slightly newer version. His is all stock. He likes it the way it is. I'm thinking about upgrading the pickups and wiring in this one....If I do, I'd like to give it a zebra/reverse zebra look. Maybe some kind of Seymour Duncans....
