Is there any real difference in sound and quality in say a set of 1988 Gibson pots/caps to a modern equivalent?
I ask because I have a few loaded Les Paul harnesses from old 88’s. Was wondering if they are worth using in some of my modern Paul’s. Hmmmmm.

Differences come from value of the pot and taper.
Both of those variables are just as available today as they were in the 80's.

Modern Les Pauls are much more often specced like vintage ones.....with 500k volumes and tones. The early 80's was the furthest from these values.....with low K readings meaning they muffled the pickup's tone more than somewhat. And while it might have gradually moved toward higher values later in the decade, I don't think they would compare.

So the only way to know is to try. There is no inherent reason why vintage spec would be a better option for you.

I imagine there may be a handful of persons (or more) that might be interested in them if they fail the attempt. I certainly wouldn't toss the dang things.
Are the marked values readable?

I have one available if anyone is interested. Not sure what to charge for this but I’d trade for a standard spaces JB.
All pots measure in the 500K range and are in perfect working order.
