I really wanted an Epi EX 1984 in white.. it's kind of a "Hetfield" model with its EMG pickups and white finish... but I picked up this for quite a bit cheaper. I added some EMG JH pickups and tried some vinyl inlay stickers for ****s and giggles.. it jams pretty well..

thanks!!!!

I tell ya, they are impressive... ya could not give two ****s about Hetfield or Metallica and you will love them. It gives ya the great crunch EMGs are known for plus the cleans can give you almost a Gibson like tone.. i have an EC1000 with 81s and the cleans don't have any personality in comparison. Not that people buy 81s for their clean tones anyhow.. this is a great all around pickup if a lot of distortion is part of your playing style...

I hear ya, IMO they're the best pickups EMG makes at the moment. Fat and chunky sounding, but really sweet clean tones if need be. They really have a bit of "passive" sound in them. Sometimes hard to dial in with the massive output though.

I really like that they didn't just put the 81 and the 60 in a fancy package and sold them as "signature" but really developed a completely new set of pups. And great ones at that.

EMG has a few videos on the development of them.. they went through a ton of different variations before he decided on a set. He wanted a passive clean with an active crunch basically.. I think they did a great job at it.. ya can almost get some fendery tones from them too.
