Received a 2022 Murphy Lab from Gibson today.

Anyone else seen the 70th Anv medallion yet?

Been too busy with work and holidays to look at guitars lately.

I hope everyone has a good new year. And be safe.

Finish seems thicker. Les aging especially less freezer cracks if any. Actually looks more realistic. To give them credit they do seem to be refining the process. Nice color. Decent flame top.

Will post pics maybe tomorrow. Dark and rainy in California tonight. We have had a good solid week of rain actually.

Cheers.

Calieng + Murphy Lab??! 70th anniversary... flame top??!? Wait, what the heck is happening??!? :run:

Don't worry I am not done being pissy yet. I am still waiting for the replacement of my precious '58 Urine Burst.

I will give them a break over the holidays...you know the saying "good will to men" or something along those lines.

:)

Nope. '59 Heavy aged.

That's why I was wondering if they will be on all the 2022 CS guitars? First time I saw it.
Makes me wonder what anniversary the ‘59 reissues are going to have in 2029...

There was a 2022 R4 at Sweetwater with that medallion so I’m assuming all will have it.

Just Gibson whorin' out anniversary models because some think they'll be more collectible.

They made 60ths thru the following year in both the '59 and '60 models. My '21 R0 is a 60th...

My guess is the crew at Gibson is under pressure to produce as many sales for as little money as possible.

The hedge funds guys are running the show. The top brass at Gibson are just the faces and mouth pieces for the suits up stream.

Here you go.....

Basically thicker finish, exposed wood is colored black as if with years of wear, crazing of finish is much more subtle - not raised up very fine and hard to see from most angles. Overall much more realistic looking. They missed aging the switch and strap buttons. Minus 2 points for that. I would give it an overall excellent rating.
