Any press is good press. Just a calculated business move to not let a tragedy go wasted.

Gene's comments were in July. People are making a stink out of them NOW because of what happened with Robin Williams.

Where was the outage in that intervening period?

Don't get me wrong, I do not agree with his comments either, but in no way is this Gene cashing on on RW's death, it's actually MORE sensible to suggest that RW committed suicide to cash in Gene's comments. Absurd, but actually slightly less absurd than the premise that Gene knew that RW was going to commit suicide and made the comments in advance.

And if you're going to kill yourself, there's probably a KISS brand razor blade to do it with and you can be buried in a KISS coffin.

Simmons will sell anything. It's too bad his female fans are mostly past menstruating age. He could market the KISS tampon, shaped like his tongue. Oh the fun the ladies could have pretending to be a notch on Gene's bedpost, all while having the KISS concert experience in their pants.

One of the worst parts of depression is understanding you should be happy, despite feeling lousy all the time.

I'm sure they come in all shapes and sizes. One of my experiences with these "victims" is one of my sisters. She's never had depression issues. Just a b*tch that makes bad decisions all the time.

I wouldn't laugh at or dismiss anyone who has real depression issues.

I'm happy to say I've never given one red cent to this douche-nozzle or his stupid band.

I was thinking of Robin Williams and it occurs to me;
It's the nice guys that top themselves, but it's the bastards that hang around forever making people miserable.

I've known people who had to deal with depression. Sometimes it was a matter of too much shit happening at once, sometimes it was a medical (chemical imbalance) problem.

If Gene thinks they should all kill themselves, he can lead the way and show them how "a real man" does it.

**** him and the horse he rode in on.

The first rock album I ever owned was Love Gun by KISS but I've never really been a huge fan. Gene is, and always has been, a douche and I don't get the Ace worship that goes on.

And while Gene has always been a douche, he and Paul have been known to have a decent side as well:

That Kiss or this guy are anything besides the most obscure of footnotes in rock history is another one of those amazing things about life in general. They came out when I was a young teen age boy which I assume to be their target audience and they seemed laughably awful to me even then. How do they possibly hold sway at all. Incredible and, yeah, Gene has always struck me as probably the biggest d-bag in rock history or at least in the running. But it's a somewhat free country. Let the ass bray in the middle of town so everyone knows he is an ass.

Gene Simmons says a lot to ensure that Gene Simmons remains a topic of conversation - has been that way for years.

I am neither a KISS fan or hater - they were popular many years ago, and they have their fan base - along with a ton of people who would rather they have not have existed. I don't get the attraction to them nearly 40 years past their prime - but someone does as they remain steady money makers without doing much musically.

The whole point that suicide is a cry for attention - is at least rooted in some truth. For some people it is - they wrongly feel that is the best way to get attention. Ironic as others (such as Mr Simmons) feel the best way to get attention is make an outrageous statement about some current topic of discussion. For too many people, suicide is something they look at as a way out - away from the pain, the depression and the illness they suffer from - Anyone who truly feels it is just a cry for attention in each and every case is either poorly educated (something Gene Simmons is not) or highly delusional.

Suicide is not something that should ever be laughed off - depression is still a taboo topic to openly discuss for many people - cancer is a disease we can relate to - no one ask to suffer from cancer, and its effects are devastating, but certain diseases like depression or HIV/AIDS are still treated by members of our society like someone ask for them by their lifestyle. Fortunately, we are gaining an understanding and acceptance for victims - but not quickly enough.

Actually just finished his book a week ago - wonder what he would say if those controversial comments were directed at victims of an infamous world leader whom his mother and family suffered under? I don't understand how someone who was raised so worldly can have such closed minded viewpoints at times - but I am sure sometimes with him its just an act to ensure his name remains in the conversation.

Say what you want about the man, but he will probably make more money today in interest alone than the net worth of anybody that has commented in this thread. If you don't like him don't listen, don't buy, and don't comment. Everyone on here and elsewhere shouting their disdain over his comments is doing exactly what he wanted them to do when he made those or any other incendiary comments.

The man is brilliant at marketing himself and his band, and I am sure that if there was a dollar to be made selling GS tampons, douches, or caskets they would already be available at your nearest retail outlet. I am no KISS fan, but I am no hater either, the proof is in the pudding, love them or hate them, you have to respect what GS and Kiss have acheived. If it was easy, we would all be wealthy rock stars.

I was aware of that, and there was some outrage back then when he said it... But, the events of this week just highlighted what a asshole he really is.
