the obvious solution is stop paying for and seeing Old Bands and invest that energy and money into the future of new music and young bands.

...instead of older tribute artists tributing their own past glory days (which they're no longer even capable of recreating.)

Why, if the older tribute band is giving me more for my money?
A lot of young bands are struggling because their product doesn't appeal to enough people.

eh,...I've watched a lot of the 'older guys' recent concerts on youtube,....I'm not sure people are getting more for their money.

Maybe more explosions to hide the fact they can't play and sing anymore? :laugh2:

Hell I love Metallica,..but even I can admit Kirks solos are horrible now. Sloppy, out of tune, out of time,..wah drenched to hide the mistakes and such....

James is still kicking ass on guitar,..but his voice will never be like the mid to late 80's again. He doesn't roar anymore,...he sings

I love 'em,..wouldn't pay to see them anymore. They just don't/can't do what they did in their prime. ..and they're far from alone in that regard.

Propping up the dinosaurs just makes rock look sadder and weaker,...year after year.

Why is hip-hop popular? It's young, vibrant, and marketed that way.

Who is rock really marketed to? My 60+ year old Dad?

^ I'm 60 and I concur.

Honestly, I love all the old bands I grew up with but they're really starting to embarrass me.

^ No offense taken here

'cause you're right:thumb:

Part of me says that Rock and Roll is part music, part rebellion. That said, if someone says the Stones are too old to tour, the 'Rock and Roll' thing to do is to raise the middle finger and go out there and do it.

However, the show still has to be good.

Part of the problem is this- if a key part of rock'n'roll is to be anti-establisment, and r'n'r has become totally the establishment - it's in every commercial, mall Muzak and, Jesus, even Rush frickin' Limbaugh uses the Pretenders as theme music - how "rebellious" can it be? Led Zep's "Rock and Roll" used to sell Cadillacs?

^True, but maybe try writing some decent new music instead of trying to re-create something you did when you were 20 and have been beating to death for the last 30+ years.

True that. Like I posted earlier, some can still produce something worth listening to. Hell, I think that Motorhead's Inferno is by far the best album from MH-part deux, and among their best from the band's entire catalogue.

I am surprised that this thread is still continuing. A bass player from a gimmicky kiddie rock band that arguably has not contributed anything substantial to rock lives to make money. What is there to discuss?

I didn't mean he's a fraud at playing music. But, he IS a fraudulent musician.

Interesting statement , but I still don't get it? I know he lies and has made deals that benefit him and his wallet over others that deserved more, but how is he a Fraudulent Musician?

The thread isn’t about whether they created cool music back in the day, whether they went from being a rock band to a circus act with interchangeable members (thought they can still sell out arenas), whether they are and will always be legendary, whether they are greedy and complete sell-outs. It’s about $immon$ openly admitting it’s all about the money. And at his age and with a product with this potential earning capacity I'm sure a lot of people would reap the benefits of it... it's understandable to a point.

Talking just about classic popular rock bands, there are plenty who have come to understand the value of marketing more than their performances and music but NONE have taken it to this level. Once Gene and Paul replace themselves and the next generation of the band members takes over it will no longer be considered a band but more like a franchise.

Russian nesting dolls – I triple dog dare you to name any band that sells something this f&cking stupid.

I honestly don't care, I'm amused by it but call a spade a spade.

As Gene said in an interview, "KISS isn't a band, it's a brand."

"I'll never stop hunting more money, I'll never have enough."

"I live to make more money. People who say that money is the root of all evil are morons, a lack of money is the root of all evil."

I like money, but past a certain point (more than you could ever spend), what is the point unless you stop to just enjoy it once in a while?

Money is important because people think it is and want it to be. It's monopoly money, worth something because people want it to be.

Kinda funny to watch people chase it though.

I wonder how many on their death bed will wish they worked more and had more money?

Money's only really good for purchasing overpriced luxury distractions,...which don't distract for long before people start shopping around for something else. This mentality seems to extend to relationships and everything else these days.

...gotta fill some void in their life I suppose because people seem to be fundamentally unhappy at their core.

good for the prescription companies throwing prozac and zanax at everyone,...probably not good for a society or civilization in the long term to have it be full of hollow disenfranchised zombies who spend their lives staring at their phone or computer screen fantasizing and dreaming about a better life.

heck of a funny society we've created. I don't know how more people don't just walk around laughing at the absurdity of it all.

...or maybe I'm just nuts. :laugh2:
