Has anyone here seen one in person and played it? The "Platinum" sales guy was very nice on the phone, but didn't seem to have a lot of details about this model.

This is the only source of information I've been able to find on it:

Gibson Custom Shop 1968 Les Paul Custom Tobacco Burst LTD Run New from the master artisans at the Gibson Custom shop, this stunning Les Paul Custom features a vividly figured flamed maple top and a custom Burstbucker bridge pickup. Special wiring includes coil tap for a wide range of incredible sounds, a phase switch and a kill switch.

Only 25 of these beauties will be produced for 2010, so get yours before they are gone...

Looks to have the JP wiring, but what about the other electronics and the neck pickup? Also, I'm not too sure about that "custom" Burstbucker, hope its not too overwound. Is it safe to assume all of the other features in the garden variety Custom Shop '68RI are the same?

Custom wound bridge pickup does not mean overwound, just custom. The new G0s also have custom wounds with the same wiring. The neck pickup is a 57 Classic. Nice top

Is this just theory or have you actually played/heard the '68TB? Not jumping on you, I just want something real to go on, since there aren't any GCs around me that have this in stock.

Thanks

Wasn't GC selling that last month on special for $3100?
No, you are thinking of the garden variety Tri-burst non-limited run for $3,199, now $3,999 on the platinum site or $3,499.99 on the regular GC site....

With its distinctive style and long list of appointments, the Gibson Custom 1968 Les Paul Custom is a favorite of players and collectors. Featuring the trademark split diamond headstock inlay and lavishly bound body, this Les Paul Custom version adds a carved, flame maple top. The guitar's '57 Classic humbuckers provide the smoothest, richest tone of any of the Gibson pickups while gold hardware adds a sumptuous glow under the stage lights. Includes Gibson hardshell case.
