I want a cherry red Jr with the funny Jr shaped pick guard like Steuart Smith uses in the Eagles. Great P90 tone!

hillbilly, that thing looks awesome! I imagine since you gig with it, she sounds at least as good as she looks. Congrats! How many hours would you say the complete conversion took?

The wood-work took a week or so, on and off, and there was alot of hand sanding & prep for paint. The hardest part was waiting 2 months for the nitro to gas-off & be dry enough to put back together and play... :dude:

3 gigs a week for the last year, she's got some real aging on her...blood, sweat & beers...

And she weighs about 5 1/2 pounds...

Yeah by the time I called it was gone. I have never seen a JR with a stop tail and TOM, but it looked good in the crappy pic.

Maybe Gibson did a special run in the 90s or something sort of like how the 90s Les Paul special were so much better.

God, why does Gibson suck and not making COOL basic guitars anymore? Ugh.

Seriously, I wonder if it was an inexpensive conversion, like a faded or newer special....I guess that would only work if it had a batwing, not the small pg, since you would see the route. Dang, that woulda been cool. Not as cool as a wraparound, but for $400, who cares!

Good lord whats that tattoo on it? lol

I dont think it was a conversion, check this out: 1991 Gibson SG JUNIOR - Guitar Relics of New York Inc. - , Excellent Condition

It looks just like it except this one is black, not cherry.

As I suspected, Its a 90s Gibby. Back when Gibson was cool and didnt use their custom shop to ramp up prices north of 3K so rich corksniffers can think theyre playing something better with more "tone" (lol) while waking off used blues licks.

Gibson wonders why theyre failing. Heres a tip: put out a quality run of LP Jrs, REAL Les Paul specials, SG juniors and specials. In all the popular colors and make them all just under 1k. Affordable - I could get several over time, and have different tones available instead of dumping a load of money on ONE guitar and no variety. Im not rich, the economy is in the crapper and they STILL want to charge 3K+ for SG, give me a break.

Ok, rant over...can you tell Im still upset about missing that git for 400 bucks! lol

New here. This is my first post.

I had been GASing for a vintage SG Junior for the better part of two years, but could never afford what the market was demanding for them. That was, until two weeks ago, when I stumbled upon this...

143.jpg

Compared to what these go for - even in this economy - I got it for a STEAL AND A HALF.

It's a '64 (the year I was looking for). It's got a nice big neck, original tuners, wiring harness, pickguard, P90, the whole shebang. Original Polaris White finish (my #1 choice as well). It really couldn't have been a better scenario.

I do scratch my head at the whole "Custom Made" plaque and rather rare Maestro Vibrato. The guy who sold it to me said that he pulled the plaque to check for plugged/empty screw holes or dowel marks, but found nothing. I'm guessing that the vibrato was added as a factory option from a dealer, but I really don't know. I've seen a few juniors with this specific vibrato, but none with the custom made plaque AND vibrato. The strange thing is, is that it appears to be all original. The vibrato base is worn (and unfortunately missing the arm assembly as many do) so it definitely has been on there for a while.

If anyone knows where I can find the vibrato arm assembly that would be tremendously helpful. There's not much info out there on these Maestro vibratos. Everything points to the other leaf spring style Maestro or the long tailpiece.

Anyway, she's going in for a set up with my tech this week, but right off the bat I'm more than impressed!

:thumb:Thanks, that's cool. I didn't even know they did a run of jr's like that. Gotta keep my eyes open for those.

Amen, brother. I'm no economist or business strategist (is that even a job???) just a dumb mechanic, but it seems to me that if they did exactly what you just described, they couldn't keep anything on the shelf. Make instruments for the players, not collectors. I think with the ridiculous vintage market, they are trying to make sure the new stuff is collectable/valuble in 35years, or even right now! All that does artificially inflate the market price of an already prohibitivly expensive instrument. Was it the intention when jr's, specials, even standards were produced in the 50's, 60's, 70's to make a guitar that would have vintage value in 30-40 years time? NO! Jr's and Specials were budget models. Hell, even a 1959 'burst was just a regular, quality guitar at the time. If they got back to that, I'm sure they would do very well.

Ok rant over. Guess I'm just upset about you missing that jr for $400!!!

White SG Jr's Rock!

I gassed for one aswell. I really love the look of a Jr, with that sleek nice pickguard. However i like to have a neck pickup, and a full humbucker in the bridge postioin. I dont like destroying old guitars, so here's what I did:

Congrats! That is super friggin cool. I think we have a candidate for a new Gibson SG Special...? I could definitly go for some of that!

Dude, that is rad. Anymore pics? Ihave to say, I like the looks of a SG Jr. better than a Standard SG. I would get a guitar like this in white or pelham blue in a heart beat. And I'm a Paul player mostly. I could actually use a guitar with those mods for Metal too!
