Allman Brothers- Fillmore for sure.
Emerson Lake and Palmer- Welcome Back... was at the time one of the technically and sonically best live records.
Rolling Stones- Brussels Affair 1973 - one of the best ever performances of the band with Mick Taylor.
Lou Reed- Rock'n'Roll Animal - Hunter & Wagner's guitar dueling is like Christmas candy for music fans.
Neil Young- Live at Massey Hall- spectacular early period show.
Jimi Hendrix- Live at Winterland- great sound and great performances

After reading some other's posts I need to add these:

Pat Travers - Go for What You Know (Not sure how I forgot this one, I've seen Pat live probably a dozen times...)

Emerson Lake and Palmer - Welcome Back My Friends to The Show That Never End, Ladies and Gentlemen... (Not sure how I forgot this one either, I just listened to it the other day.)

Metallica - Live Shit Binge and Purge
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Slayer - Decade of Aggression
The Beatles - Live at Hollywood Bowl

generally I prefer studio albums though. The sound is better and no crowd noise.

My personal favorite live albums are:

Rush - Rush in Rio
Queen - Live at Wembley Stadium
Ozzy - Tribute
Guns N' Roses - Live Era '87-'93
Metallica - S&M and Live Shit: Binge and Purge (I know that's two but it's too hard to choose from one)
Dream Theater - Score
The Band - The Last Waltz
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Yes - Yessongs
Genesis - Seconds Out

Jefferson Airplane - Bless Its Pointed Little Head
That was recorded live near the time I saw them at
Fillmore West. It showed them rocking harder than
their studio work usually represented.

Lots of great live albums mentioned so far.

Another great one was Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous.

Two I haven't seen mentioned:

Overall, I would say The Eagles HELL FREEZES OVER - The sound quality is amazing and the performances and material are equally as impressive.

Best live Strat tone - ROBIN TROWER LIVE - A killer player at his very best through cranked Marshalls.

Agree completely.

Some are great live albums for the performance and engineering quality.

Others, as I mentioned the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl...
Ozzy's Tribute show would fall under "historical significance"
Ozzy just is not that good live, and further, the compositions don't translate well to a live show, particularly with only one guitar.
But any recording with Randy is to be honored and respected.
