Inflated member counts (by including bot accounts) inflated the value of Twit(ter) and was used to increase ad prices.

No wonder they don't want their smoke-and-mirrors revealed. Now that they realized a court discovery will force their hand, instead of resisting Musk, now they are trying to sue him for backing out.

Why would they do a 180 otherwise?

If they thought they were in a bad position regarding the bots count,
why would they sue Elon and open the door to reveal info about the bots?
And yes, it could be a defensive strike thinking Elon would settle and they wouldn't have
to reveal shit.

But it's true for Elon too.
He could have realized that he offered too much money or "the prize" wasn't that exciting
after sobering up , who knows?

As with any trial, civil or criminal, it's not over until all appeals have been made.
