So I just spent two hours working on a song for this weekend, Church, and I'm no closer to being able to play it than I was before. I considered smashing my LP into kindling for a fire, at least it would have been some use then, it sure as he'll wasn't doing me any good in my useless hands.

As much as I love playing there are times when it's the last friggin thing I want to do, anyway I just needed to vent.

Then do just that. Playing guitar is no different than learning any other skill. Sometimes, its better to play for short periods, learn a few bars then come back later on and go for more.

Endeavor to persevere.

If I could pick up a new song in two hours, I'd be a very happy man. For me, it's more like two weeks.

I endeavor to persevere.

When I have a hard time with learning something I put the guitar down and then after I wake up in the morning (got to have some coffee first) I pick it back up and play. I have found that on a fresh nights sleep I can learn something a lot faster with less difficulty. I know that this probably sounds like bs but it really works. Give it a shot.

Okay, simplify it for yourself, and then work that up to the real deal.

Thanks guys, now I feel like a dick for making some "woe is me" thread, I was just annoyed. I love playing for my Church but sometimes learning 4-5 new songs a week is a pain. I'm done for today, time for bed, I got rehearsal tomorrow night, I'll figure it out there.

Take a break. Walk away from the songs and come to it later. That's what happens when I get frustrated. Cause if I don't then this what happens.

stop going to church. problem solved.

That's one option, that's the only place I play with other people though. Before I started playing there I'd just screw around with my guitar on my couch never really accomplishing anything. Since I've been playing with them I've improved a lot and learned more than I had in the previous 18 or so years.

IMO church is good for the soul and I wish there was a lot more people that believed but we all have our own opinion and not on a band wagon here just sayin if you go to church nothing is wrong with that at all. :thumb:

The Sweathogs like to rehearse on Sunday mornings. We call it our church. It is a great time to jam.:D

Find out what key it's in and then improvise the entire song. You'll get lotz of attention.

That might not go over too well.

I actually just left practice a little while ago and me and the other guitar player worked it out. It seemed a whole lot simpler tonight.
