WOW!
I remember seeing this thread when it was started, then I forgot about it.

Until yesterday, when after a Frampton song on the radio, the DJ told how Peter was going to be playing his old Gibson that was lost for thirty years on his tour this year!

This is a great story!

HOWEVER, the reward should've been bigger, like, this guitar worth a load of money, and this is just one PF Reissue!

So... you return a stolen object and receive a reward from a grateful owner... but you think it could/should be more, perhaps to be paid what the object is worth?

Sure, you spent a little of your own money to make it happen, but the reward and the experience certainly exceed your costs - and you did the right thing. And... you are now a part of rock'n'roll history and have met and made a friend in Peter Frampton.

IMO Great work Donald and Ben! :dude::dude::dude:

.... an emotional moment for Donald after two years

PeterenDonaldk.jpg

Look at Donalds eyes, I'm thinking the mountain of a man Donald broke down a little. How do you put a price on that.

I thought that too,but then again just look how happy Peter is, that alone is a great reward.

Besides the names of all involved will last in history for a long time and will for ever be mentioned when ever this great story gets told.

Priceless IMO.....

Thank you nic, priceless indeed.

I had an idea that that was going to come back at me , but thought you would get my comparison. Omar as you know didn't have a problem with the ladies from the Movies and real life. I was a huge WWF fan in the 70's and 80's and also traveled with Big John Studd, met all of those guys. The Iron Sheik in real life was a very sweet and Gentle man, so different from the ring. My wife is Chinese and have seen the different calls of nationality to her and understand comparisons can be sensitive.

Update on Peter's Facebook page...

Update on recently returned old Les Paul.
My dear friend, Mike McGuire has been working on the at the Gibson custom shop. We are not changing the appearance just making it playable and cleaning it up a bit. There are some cracks in the headstock that need gluing and every screw hole has to be filled. I guess as screws were lost they looked in the kitchen drawer and said, "This'll do". The frets were in really bad shape mainly in 1st position. (Lots of C, F, G and E, A, D playing I guess. lol.) The great luthier, Joe Glaser, tenderly changed the frets for almost the same ones as were originally on the guitar. I must also thank my good buddies, Phil Bennet and Gordon Kennedy, for coming to the rescue with NOS guitar parts. Caps and pots etc. needed replacing. The electronics were shot but these time sensitive special pieces will be fantastic in bringing it back to it's old self.

I did finally speak with Marc Mariana, who actually gave me the guitar in the first place. I could hear him smiling on the other end of the phone. It's so great to be able to share this great news with him. I will be able to see him in CA during the upcoming tour.

We are documenting every stage of the guitar's convalescence with photos and video. It's the only reality show where you will ever find me!

Let's move on, I'm not the only one that had doubts. With several guys on this forum including myself that know about 50's Customs, had we seen pics of the control cavity and the recent neck pickup cavity picture we would not have doubted the said guitar. I see why your upset, that's fine, but understand from the experts perspective, if we had pictures it would have been a different story.

Steve, don't listen to these guys....at the time with the pics given it looked like a Norlin Custom. I think both you and I along with many others were hoping that it was a Frampton custom and said so many times. We have been around the block on these so called 50's Gibson finds. With the pictures and info given there was NO WAY to tell what it was. All they had to do was show the cavity pic. They showed everything else....that would have kept this thread to half of what it is.

On the very first post you can see that it could not be a Norlin custom, post 1

Hmmm.... Okay you're right. Still, he could give them a nice old signed LP from his collection, and the PF reissue. I'm sure he waited a lot of time for this guitar, 31 years.
