Believe me, I was very skeptical at first due to all of the stories/interviews I seen over the years (I've been a HUGE fan of PF since I was 5 years old, so I've been on this like white on rice) talking about how bad the crash/explosion was, and like Peter/everyone else, assumed that it would have been impossible for anything, let alone a guitar, to have survived. But after doing the pic/inlay comparisons, and adding up all of the evidence, I'm pretty confident that we're witnessing history in the making.

Here's a little Recap (my comparisons),

Matching headstock inlays:

How can you reconcile the fact that the inlays on those two guitars seem to have completely different spacing though?

For the record, headstock diamond pieces don't look they are in the same positions is that they are painted over with black with the main shape revealed. When the black paint is gone, what you see is the full chunks of MOP.

this story surpasses the "old lady selling the 100$ chevy in the barn that actually turns out to be some ultra rare Corvette worth millions"

rock on!

So, Benwave.......apologies for my doubt, YOU were right.
Any chance of you postin' up some more pix that you took of the guitar before you returned it?

Very noble of you admitting it and apologizing. As for the second part,I seriously doubt that happening...It reminded me of the "rmeil burst" thread...

I was thinking the same tbh.

I hope people can learn from this (and the rmeil) thread. That there are some honest and decent people out there and not everyone is a cynical scammer / hoaxer or whatever.

It was only a matter of time before the truth outed (in both cases) and maybe if some had applied a little more patience and courtesy we'd have 2 new members (referring to the rmeil thing as well) and a much nicer ending to a great thread.

That being said, it's good to see some members are big enough to admit fault.

Great read.

I'll admit, I thought it was a hoax at first, but after seeing how the guitar evolved with PF before he lost it. The re-board, matching inlays ect.
Thanks to those who posted the vids. And thanks to Oranjeaap for the original post, and Benwave for all the info.
What an amazing story! :applause:

All he had to do was post some cavity pics, that would have told the whole story but he didn't. From the pictures given there was very little to base it on being a 50's Gibson. Anyone with a brain would have been skeptical.

There are guitar players that are averse to even removing the backplates, for fear they'll "break" something. They will take their instrument(s) to a "music shop" (luthier) for the most mundane tasks. I've met several.

Some people barely have the mechanical aptitude to change a light bulb, let alone pull a guitar pickup.

Cut em some slack.

I resemble that remark. I'm lucky if I change my own strings!

And when I asked about a plane crash I was told the earlier guitars were lost in a flood?

He lost his two main "PF" guitars in the Nashville flood a couple years back. Sold the remains at auction to raise relief money for other victims.
