The guitar pictured, with three double whites and a pickguard (and the matching inlays--look at that first fret!)

is the ONLY Les Paul seen in the many videos and pictures from that tour.

Crappy quality on wolfgang's vault ('79)and youtube of the brazil TV special (1980).

Fingers crossed. He has it.

BTW, if you had that guitar and made him buy it, you'd be an ass of major proportions in all of the stories (and continued "legend" of the tale) from here on out.

Not necessarily?

I don't care how famous I was, if I lost a guitar, thinking it was gone forever, and it was found 30+ years later, I'd definitely compensate the person/people who found it.

Now, that being said, I do think that if a guitar is stolen (no matter how much time has passed), I don't think it's right for the original owner to have to buy it back (which has happened before) from the current owner, because IMHO, it still considered "stolen property". No matter what the law says.

If this is an accurate statement, then someones a fool! I and most of you would make all they could. I mean, this is not Eric Claptons guitar, but a one album rock star?????

"Rockin' the Fillmore" and "Frampton comes Alive" would be in the top five all time greatest live Albums. No question. That 3 pup Custom is up there in terms of collectability/desirability with Gilmour's Strat, the Rory and SRV Strat, the Angus SG etc. They are the iconic instruments that define those artists. Clapton chopped and changed, he played a million different guitars. After that FCA album everyone and I mean EVERYONE, from grizzled old rockers to teenyboppers wanted a black 3 pup LP Custom.:thumb:

Still got mine!!

With all due respect Wilko, I have, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's his '54 if it's just an assumption (however educated that assumption may be) that he had a refin done.

Fingers crossed. He has it.

Couldn't agree more! :thumb:

That's an entirely different situation. I would as well, but it's Frampton's (or the original owner's) prerogative to choose to do that, which is different from the holder of the instrument asking for something in return.

I don't see why they shouldn't make some money on it, everyone else is going to. They should sell it for whatever someone is willing to pay for it and hopefully use that money to have a little fun or put away for the kids. Why would they just give away something that they own and had nothing to do with it going missing in the first place. To me that is a piece of treasure, and they are the lucky ones who stumbled across it. All things being equal I would like to see it go to Frampton, but if he and gibson are willing to trade for some custom shop les paul, and a collector is going to offer up thousands of dollars, then the collector would be getting a new guitar. Nothing scummy or greedy about that at all. And if you didn't want to sell it then I would lend it to Frampton indefinitely with the stipend that it not be sold or given to anyone else.

Confirmed. This is the FCA guitar. I talked to some friends at Gibson and they confirmed that its the real deal. Also confirmed that it was reboarded and redone in the late 70's by Gibson. Triple whites and all that. Peter was here for two days going through everything. They also said that this thing is ROUGH. I didn't hear why they're waiting until January to release info, my boys didn't know. Also didn't know the immediate plans for the git, like restoration or anything like that.

So, now what?

Edit: I guess I should add that they were all the way into this guitar. They confirmed a bunch things like routes, pickup and pot codes, pu rings, everything. From what I understand, there isn't a shred of doubt.

Well good, glad Peter got his baby back. I know what it feels like, though I didn't have to wait nearly as long as he did.

As someone stated earlier, this is a true money making pony, even if it was not the real deal, it's close enought to make millions.....

If it is the FCA there is serious money to be made for everyone involved, from the bottom to the top. Don't kid yourself otherwise. The worse thing those Dutch boys could do now is sell it.

I"m not kidding myself at all, i am disputing the opinion of all those that said "just give it to him for free" or "it would be jerky to try and get something for it"

I think it is worth something too, and I would want to own that something and not give it away for free, that would be more ridiculous than keeping it for a profit or selling it.

The deal was posted on the first page; some cash and new guitars for those involved.

If Josh's info is accurate....hell yes. I'd bet Peter is walking on air right about now...even in rough condition, the return of an old friend like that is just priceless.

Here's to getting more info as the deal progresses....of course the thing I want to see is ol'Frampy walking out onstage with that old battle-axe slung over his shoulder.

Merry Christmas, Peter.
