I remember seeing on VH1 that Peter shacked up with some chick right after Comes Alive came out. While he was on tour supporting the album (the tour lasted a few years), the chick spent damn near every dime he had throwing huge parties every night. He found out he had about a buck fifty in his account when all was said and done.

I saw him at Thre Rivers Stadium when I was about twelve or thirteen on that tour. Gary Wright and The Beach Boys were also on the bill. It was an incredible show. Matter of fact, he's coming to a very small venue here in town in February. I might go check it out.

I don't remember for sure, but that might have been Penny, from "Penny For Your Thoughts"? I remember reading years ago back in the '70s that she left him and he was, understandably so, pretty distraught over it, but they may have already split by then?

If you get the chance, go. You won't be disappointed. I've seen him three times: once before FCA was released (he was an opening act at the time and the reason that I went to the concert in the first place), once after FCA was released and then last summer. I'm going to see him as well next year.

Why does a simple post turn into a pissing match?

Either you think it's Framptons guitar or you don't. It's fun to share opinions but there is no reason at all for this to turn mean.

Because that's how these things always are.:thumb: This is the equivalent of going on a God Botherers forum and saying you've found the Arc of the Covenant..........http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ark_of_the_Covenant ......... It would all start very politely but by the third page you'd have Bishops demanding the Ban hammer and Nuns calling you a c*nt!! :laugh2::laugh2:

For the record, headstock diamond pieces don't look they are in the same positions is that they are painted over with black with the main shape revealed. When the black paint is gone, what you see is the full chunks of MOP.

It also appears that things that should have never survived severe fire can and do.

True enough. My sister had a house fire several years ago and I remember walking through the dripping ruins after the firemen let us in and just laughing at what survived and what didn't. She is Native and had a lot of pow wow dance outfits and feathers and other sacred items on shelves right next to computers. The computers were melted into funny shapes...the feathers, etc. were untouched.

Since guitars to me are sacred items, at least in my mind...I would assume that maybe the same would happen :)

Personally...I am enjoying the banter in this thread, at least aside from some of the defensive comments. It's a mystery...and mysteries like this have tended to get muddled. Money and music...phew! It astounds me that instruments, meant to be played by artists, have become items for speculation and are seen as investments, etc.. This isn't necessarily so bad in and of itself, except that it does bring in the wing dings and outright frauds. I only say this, because (and maybe there is some kind of language barrier here, but...) but it requires scrutiny. To take anything claimed on face value here, irrespective of personalities, is dangerous. So Ben...lighten the hell up please. This is not personal. To take it that way is a mistake. In situations like this, it seems it is dangerous to take ANYTHING on face value. You may be dead spot on with regards to this guitar's lineage. On the other hand, you or your friend (I'm a little hazy on the details here exactly) may have been lied to and duped. It does happen in this crazy business. Wouldn't you really want to know the truth?

This gets all the more muddled by Peter's divorce issues. Sad to hear it. It could be that these guitars and all the mud and history associated with them might be a bit much to deal with...especially right now. Just a thought.

Anyway...I am enjoying the hell out of the discussion. Really :)

This thread is a win. :thumb:

It has everything a thread could ever hope for, high drama, frustration, anger, anticipation, celebrity, elation, humor, degradation, disbelief, disdain, wonderment, curiosilty.

How many hills and valleys can a single thread take? Its like a roller coaster I tell you!

If MLP ever had an award show at the end of the year, this thread would have to be nominated for a "MLPY".

...and its not over yet.

Its popcorn for me too when I get home from work tonight. :dude:

I'm pretty sure I have found pics of Frampton playing the guitar of the thread. Though surely NOT the so-called '54 FCA guitar--I believe we have a second Les Paul custom, unless the original was heavily rebuilt in about 1977 with new fretboard, paint and gold hardware--including a change from grover to Schaller. Never mind the pick guard screw being in the wrong place. The guitar in t his thread matches the photos I found of Peter in 1979.

I've pointed to similar markings in fretboard inlays, and the TRC which appears as a painted version (engraved are so thin and deep that they almost disappear in side angle shots) which could have easily lost it's paint from heat and years of contact. That forensic laboratory analysis will show ;)

Cool story here:

Im on a Dutch guitar forum, and this thread just shows up where this guy claims to have found the famous Frampton guitar that was lost in a plane crash.

Here are some pictures first, then I will translate the original thread in English so everybody can read the story.

Ill start translating his story now, stay tuned, wont take long

Could be...

Look at the end of the fretboard. Way more wood past the last fret on the original guitar that is said to be the "54" in the thread title. It may be another Frampton guitar. But not the one from the title. Also the tweaked inlay is clearly seen here.

OK, so after doing another comparison, I/we can conclusively say that this IS one of Peter Frampton's LPs:

You can clearly see that the wear patterns, and the damaged binding right above the toggle-switch are an exact match, so there's no question in my mind that it's one of his.

But, whether or not it is THE FCA (converted '54) LP, is the real question?

I just got so wrapped up in all of this (I'm a die-hard FOF), that I might have jumped the gun a little in assuming that it was THE ONE?

Just read up on the original thread on the Dutch forum ... apparently PF's management is pissed off that the story broke on internet, after agreements were made with Gibson and PF about an exclusive media story etc.

Why worry about guitar forums. It's still a great news story worthy of pop/human interest media coverage.

This forum angle with all of us geeks gettin' all forensic about it could be part of the story.

yup. Totally agree. This doesn't hurt the story at all; it even helps it.
