Well he made it mainstream again in the time of the super Strat. Gibson said it themselves back then with "every time Slash is on MTV we sell 5 Les Pauls." Many people still buy them today because of him, every generation has it's hero.

That is fine I guess. I never bought one because of him however. In fact I bought them in spite of him. I like his playing, but never thought it was well adapted to the LP personally. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.

I hear that! I picked up a wine red Trad Pro II, did a little hardware swap (knobs, pointers, ivory tuners) and voila! Rosso Corsa for about $1500. I also swapped pups for Suhr Doug Aldrich and ditched the push-pull stuff.

Gorgeous! And that's all you need! I did something similar with a Standard I picked up last year - ditched all the PCB push-pull nonsense and she put a set of APH2's in:

Not to steal this thread away but after confirming just a few hours ago that I did in fact snag the one and only flame top inbound to the guitar shop (not inserting name of guitar shop in the interest of not being a dick), I get a call from the management of said guitar shop telling me that Gibson is not going to ship them the guitar and therefore the guitar shop had to cancel my order. I placed the order late last night, confirmed order number provided with an 8/24 arrival date, called the guitar shop twice to just check / reconfirm that I was winner winner chicken dinner, even went to the online listing to only see that it has been pulled and "no longer available" as there was only a certain amount, that I did get the one and only one that they were being allocated and now this...

WTF Gibson??!!

Maybe you should call Gibson customer service?

I can't lie, I have a secret lusting for a green LP. I'd like it in a "Custom" format with the layered binding and square or split inlays, though. ...and ya, flamey. Normally, I don't care much about flame but on something so outrageous, it's mandatory.

That said, there are about 100 guitars on my list above it. .....but I'll get there, eventually!

I really like the green. But 7K, I would rather get the AFD signature if I am spending that kind of cabbage.
