Not common with Probuckers, which are supposed to be on a 2015 Epi LPC.
But I would agree if it was the old Alnico Classics :)
The pickups weren't bad at all when I got it, but they're not functioning correctly at this point. With the volume/tone issues on the neck pup, I think upgrading the harness is a good first step before I descend into the pickup bunny trail. If I change pups, I think I may try to go with P90's if that's possible. I'm not sure how or if that would work on this guitar though.

The bridge pup is OK, but I always prefer to use the neck pup. I like the warmer, smoother tone, especially when used with fuzz pedals, which are my favorite pedals.

Just for clarification, do you have a Custom PRO. It comes with the Probuckers 2 & 3 as well as Push/Pull pots for Coil Tap and Reverse Phase ?

I have the 2015 Custom Pro and it has PCB/Molex harness.

You should be able to remove the entire harness, including the switch, without a soldering gun.
Just unscrew the hardware and unclip the molex connectors.

I honestly don't have any complaints about the functionality and quality of the pcb pots (to date).
I can feel the inferiority of three way switch compared to the Switchcraft switches I installed in my other two LP's but it hasn't failed me (yet).

If you are keeping the Probuckers you will be left with a molex connected to them, like this, that you have to remove.

When you get your replacement harness, are you going to keep the coil tap and get push/pull pots, or are you going to forgo that feature and get standard CTS pots ??

What I'm really interested in is if you notice much of a difference in tone with the new harness (pots).

I hope you start feeling better soon.
Wishing you a quick recovery.

Yes, it's a Custom Pro from 2015. I don't care much for the push/pull pots so I'm just replacing it with a much nicer harness and switch. The neck pup, toggle switch, and tone knob have all crapped out on me, so I figure I'll just upgrade all of it when I get the cash.

Thanks for the well wishes, mate!

Little update:

I just ordered a new switch and harness from @jonesy, and he expects to have it all done very soon. He's been absolutely fantastic to deal with. He's answered all my questions very thoroughly, even the dumb ones I asked -- I'm a noob with this stuff! We went over what I'm wanting tonewise, and he was able to make some recommendations to get me there. I'll be playing my beloved Epi again soon!

Big thank you to @Thumpalumpacus and @JohnnyN for steering me towards @jonesy!

I'll post again when it's all setup to let y'all know how it sounds!

UPDATE:

I got a switch and harness from @jonesy, and the experience couldn't have been better.

1. The customer service is top notch. Jonesy is very easy to communicate with. He answered all my calls and emails promptly, and he was more than happy to guide a total noob through the process.

2. The parts are all top notch. All the components are immaculate. I bought the pre-wired harness, and everything was attached very neatly and clearly marked.

3. The tone! I told Jonesy the issues I was having and what kind of tone I'm looking for, and he was able to recommend parts to get me there. Even keeping the stock Epi pups, there's a massive improvement in tone. The new parts added a ton of clarity, but it doesn't sound thin or harsh. It's warm, full, and clear. These parts definitely make a huge difference. The tone knobs are actually useful now too. There's a great range to them, and they have a usable sound no matter what they're set to. Even on 0, the sound is still clear. You can get a nice dark tone, but without the mud it had with the stock parts.

My Epi is working again, and it sounds amazing now! Thank you again to those in the thread for their recommendations, and a big thank you and two thumbs up for Jonesy! Top notch parts, communication, and customer service! Thanks again, mate!
