Hey all!
Let me reintroduce myself.
I used to go under the name bad.seed here years ago, and honestly haven't posted in a long time.
I got out of the LP game a bit late in 2019. I was over 20 deel at that point, and had spent most of the previous 4 years hunting and collecting Les Pauls, on top of other gear. Kind of lost my love for gear and sold off a large portion on my collection, including 5 norlin era customs, a couple of early 2000's standards, and a couple later model traditionals.
Sadly, I still had 13 Les Pauls after the sell off (that tells you how bad it was) but they really haven't gotten played all that much over the last 3 years or so.
Recently, I decided to resist them. I'm a full time guitar content creator on YouTube now. I got a chance to be the first to show the new Peavey 6505 1992 original to the world, and I wanted to break out some of my favorite guitars to do so. This included my 2005 ebony custom, my 2002 1958 Custom shop, and my 2016 Traditional (don't care what anyone says, 2016 was a fantastic year for the traditionl)
Of course, playing these guitars again reignited the LP love, and away I went on the hunt for a newer LP. I haven't played any since the restructuring of Gibson, and felt it was time to finally try one.
Well, I lucked out. There was a nearly new 2023 60's bourbon Burst on GC's used site for $1769. The pictures were terrible as usual, but I could tell the top and finish were exactly what I wanted, so I bit the bullet and placed the order.
The guitar showed up yesterday, and I did an unboxing video for it that is yet to be posted. I was nearly in tears when I opened the case. It was literally the perfect top and finish, one that I had always pictured owning but just never found the right one, or the right time.
Super happy I jumped on this one, BUT. it's not without it's quirks. The intonation is currently way off, and the nut I'd cut extremely high from the factory. hilariously high. Really bad QC in my opinion on that aspect, but that's easily fixed.
the pickups also aren't for me, but I expected that. I've never liked anything labeled burstbuckers for my personal taste. So I'm currently debating what to throw in it that will work great for mid to high gain applications so I can use this thing in some upcoming videos.
I'm no photographer, but here are some shots that came out ok and really showcase the top.
