On a hunt for an electric acoustic that will fit the needs of my hands and ears. The Yamaha APX1200 looked interesting. Wanted a slim neck, and wanted something with a 3 band onboard eq. Ordered one the other day. This is the email I just sent off

Clay-
Not happy.
Actually you could say I'm pissed off.
First guitar purchase from Sweetwater
FedeX arrived today as I was leaving for work. Yay. I got it. Put in the house.
Worked and waited to check it out after a long 10 hr day.
Got home and Open it up, Find all the paperwork including the detailed 55 point inspection card.

EPPE
Signed off on:
HARDWARE CHECK
Output Jack
Potentiometers
BATTERY COMPARTMENT

Electronics Test
Output Jack Plug and Fit
Potentiometers
Onboard Tuner and BATTERY
Acoustic Pickups

This was all signed off on.

I open my Gigbag/Case and visually inspect a very pretty guitar.
Strum a few chords find it out of tune, almost expected
Activate the tuner, doesn't work.
Plug in my tuner, doesn't work.
Check the battery compartment
No Battery
NO BATTERY?!?!?!

How the hell did EPPE sign off on this and check all this with no battery?

So now my questions is, what else is a lie?

Sweetwater service?

Sorry folks, I've dealt with enough BS in my life. Giving my money to a liar is not on my list of priorities.

Perhaps the testing team has their own battery which they put into and remove from each guitar as they test it?

Did you not have a battery you could put in?

cheers.
Out of the box didn't work
They stated they inspected and verified it WOULD WORK ON ARRIVAL

Cheers?

What do you mean, "plug in my tuner, doesn't work"??

Confused

Is the onboard a 9v? Maybe dumb question but you have the polarity right when installed?

One of the things about checklists I have learned is that, for example, "Tires" means "Are all tires on and in the vehicle inflated to appropriate pressure and of legal tread depth?" on day one of the contract, but by day 60 it has come to mean "Are some of the tires still on the vehicle?"

Out of the box didn't work
They stated they inspected and verified it WOULD WORK ON ARRIVAL

I would guess the paperwork at their end looks something like:

Guitar is GUARANTEED To Work On Arrival*

Sorry, the way you have written the OP it looks like the guitar "didn't work" and then you discovered it had no battery.

So did it work after you put in a battery? Or is the absence of a battery in the first place the issue here?

cheers.

I have to say that I'm with C² on the bit where they say "battery"- the implication is still that it has a battery in it. I'd be annoyed after a 10 hour day (sorry M&M) finding out my new guitarness is half what the paperwork suggested it would be. "Sales practices" piss me off at the best of times- I'm a lot worse than anyone's dad for that, because in the long run such bullshit is destroying the world. If it's not provable with algebra it's only a hair away. That said, my solution would be to have a rant, put the Geis on the bastards and go find a battery from somewhere.

EDIT: This may also have something to do with the fact that my only experience of Shartwater is that they lean toward BS- I had a flanger that was "a couple of weeks out" every time I asked them for three months over the summer, meanwhile they kept sending me emails I asked them not to send, trying to persuade me to buy more shit I didn't need with money I didn't have, so.. F*ck 'em in the face, basically.

I watch Perry Mason. This is; "The Case of Assault and Battery". Paul Drake will fly to Sweetwater and get to the bottom of this.

I’m not saying people don’t get irritable after a 10hr day.
I’m just saying nobody else gives a shit.
Why out that in an e-mail?

I like those Wally World Value Power batteries.

$50 and a one year warranty but I'll be dipped it lasted exactly five years to the month in my F150.

Not bad for here in the land of beer and cheese curds.

I thought you were going to say the battery compartment was cracked or that the finish was marred in some way. genuinely did not expect the missing battery would be the straw that broke the camel's back. Where do you normally get your guitars from?

I bought a new tv recently. Got it out of the box, put the little legs on it, set in place and hit the power button on the remote.

Nothing.

I pressed it again and again....nothing! The screen just stared at me, smirking. Then I noticed two AAA batteries in a little box. I HAD TO INSERT THEM MYSELF!!!??!!!

Bastards. I'll never buy a tv again.
