Looking to buy a firewire audio interface. Any thoughts on which one is the best for the $200-$300 price range?

I was looking at the Presonus Inspire (unbalanced outputs), Presonus Firebox (balanced outputs), Yamaha GO46, Echo Audiofire 2 and 4, Edirol FA66 and the M-Audio Firewire Solo.
They are all so similar...

1. Are any of them better than the other and is there a know "best"?

2. Would balanced outputs be of any benefit if I want to record using Guitar Rig 3 (Amp/effects emulator software) and a Logitech 2.1 PC speaker setup (no monitors) and maybe an acoustic guitar someday with a mic?

3. What/Why would I need monitors for?

the balanced outputs are only really needed for plugging into outbound monitors that have balanced inputs.....wouldn't be needed for using guitar rig......

I have an inspire but haven't done much recording lately....no inspiration....lol

Monitors (studio speakers) are good for getting a flat representation of the sound (sometimes lacking in the bass area) but I suggest you listen to your mixes through a variety of systems, computer speakers, monitors if you have them, headphones, and especially the car stereo.....

I find if it sounds great in the car it sounds good almost anywhere....
