Hi!
I've got a 2011 Firebird V which I fitted Seymour Duncan SM-1 pickups to some time ago. The pickups themselves are great, but a slightly smaller than the Gibson ones, leaving an unsightly gap between the surround and the pickup.
Does anyone know where to get some surrounds that fit better?

Cheers

I don't know of anyone who is making those aftermarket that are smaller. Gibson rings up to the 1982 Firebirds are the small rings, but those would leave holes showing in your guitar from the previous large rings.

There are two sizes of covers and rings but they don't interchange at all.

Am I right in thinking that the Duncan pups are vintage size and hence smaller than the current production Gibson pups?
Are you telling me that the outside dimensions of the surrounds are also different?

There is someone who just produced some surrounds that are based on the originals from the 60's. Take a look at this thread beginning at post #19:

Where to buy Firebird Pickup surrounds - Les Paul Forum

Here are pictures that I posted in that thread that show one of these new surrounds next to, and then on top of, the original surround on my '63 FB III.

I think the rings came out great. Grant, the guy that had these produced, is a really good guy from New Zealand. These surrounds fit the old size pickup covers, however, I don't know if the screw holes would line up with those on a reissue Firebird.

The inside, outside, and also screwhole distances center to center, are ALL different from early/vintage to late/reissue Firebird mounting rings. They do not interchange.

Edit: According to Brown Recluse's measurements on his vintage bird:

Outside Surround Dimensions= 1.5" x 3.42"

My measurements for a modern surround= 1.544" x 3.53"

Center to Center for the 4 mounting screw holes= 1.180" x 3.185"

Height adjusting/mounting screw holes= 2.940"

Honestly,I have Duncan pups on my birds and the gap is not as bad as I thought it would be. Hardly noticeable.....to quote George from yellow submarine ...it's all in your mind
