I'm scared to ask what I've got in that 335, I'm going to guess they're Baldwin era, lol

Yessir, I think they are..

I'll measure them and see what the resistance is. Hopefully it's not hella -high.

I think a chambered LP would be a great platform for filtertrons. Get you toward the jet type guitar.

Lollar makes these
I was talking to the guys at Tone Shop in Dallas this morning, and I mentioned this Filtertron thing.
A couple of them lit up and immediately asked if I had seen the Lollar version of this.
They are clearly fans.

Sorry!
I was in and out in 45 minutes.
Just there to pick up a guitar…

Well, I can’t decide.

Is it best to get traditional Filtertrons and use conversion rings for the humbucker opening?

Or get the Lollartron humbucker that drops right in?

I mean, at some point down the road if I buy a Gretsch, it will probably already have Filtertrons in it.

So anything I put them in will probably have a standard humbucker hole.

But there’s this thing in the back of my mind that an odd size (like the Gibson P-94 humbucker-size P-90) ain’t the real thing.

Filtertrons - what’s the actual difference?
Mounting tabs and baseplate only?
Or is the humbucker one actually constructed differently?

I personally think it's much more fun to get the universal mount filter'tron rings. That way, if you ever get a Gretsch (you can't just get one, right?), you can swap out pickups if you'd like.

I used a filtertron to humbucker ring in my epi joe pass emperor, and made my own baseplate with an aluminum plate and popsicle sticks as spacers with a gretsch filtertron.

They sounded great to me. That said, I've since gotten a Falcon with genuine modern Filter'trons, and haven't had a chance to A/B them through my rig. She's getting some work done. Once I'm able to plug in again, I can report back.

I was back-and-forth on this one.
Lollar, or TV Jones…

I decided to keep it simple.
I got on Sweetwater and ordered the TV Jones Classics in nickel, and the Gibson conversion rings in cream.
(One short, one tall.)

We’ll see how it goes!

OK, the plan is in motion.
My 2000 LP Classic is the one getting the Filtertrons.

Unfortunately, there was some expensive mission creep.
The greenish fretboard inlays have bugged me for over 20 years.
So, clean slate time.
It’s getting mother-of-pearl inlays and new frets.

And also a clearcoat sprayed onto the top so the Joe Perry autograph doesn’t get smeared or erased.

I now have more money in the guitar than I will ever recover, but it’s unlikely that I’ll ever sell it.
It will probably be a couple months before I see it again, but I have high hopes that it will be cool as hell when I do.
