The Azzurri just didn't have it in them... If they played the way they did in the last 30 mins of the Slovakia game, they would have won all 3 of their matches.

The second round of the WC is turning out like WW2. The French surrendered early, the US turned up late, and we are left to fight the Germans.

True 'nuff. But I'm not sad to see them go. After the game was over, did you see how fast the Italian coach stormed off down the runway, without even shaking the Slovakian coach's hand? He was gone before the whistle had even finished blowing! No class whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, that's the true mark of a (insert word that doesn't quite rhyme with "can't").

Arrivaderchi, Azzuri!

Domenech refused to shake the South African manager's hand after the match and looked to be cussing him out to me.

Should be great matches regardless of the outcomes. I must admit I obviously would like to see the US and England pull through to the next round, as it would be great if they could meet up again at some point and have a proper match.

In a previous thread he said he was of Portugese origin.

Here is the impasse I've reached in the family history.

In the 1891 census, my great-grandfather, Luis Vasco, stated he was from Spain.

His father, however, has a name that, from information on internet forums, would indicate a Portuguese origin: Justiniano Pinto Vasco.

So, the last concrete evidence is Spain. But further back in time it may have been Portugal. It's not out of the question that travel across the Iberian peninsula was involved at some point. But I've got no chance of establishing what happened in the first half of the 19th century in that region.

Justiniano is not a Portuguese name I think, but Pinto and Vasco are common in here, although Vasco is also used in Spain.
