At the time of my post:
T-Minus 11 days, 3 hours and 30 minutes until the first kickoff. :dude:

Many of the teams have started their travel to South Africa and a few of the teams are playing friendlies before the start of the WC. Many of the squads have been finalized.

The U.S. roster is as follows:

Forwards:
Jozy Altidore (Villareal)
Edson Buddle (L.A. Galaxy)
Robbie Findley (R.S.L.)
Herculez Gomez (Pachuca)

Midfielders:
DeMarcus Beasley (Rangers)
Michael Bradley (Moenchengladbach)
Ricardo Clark (Frankfurt)
Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
Landon Donovan (L.A. Galaxy)
Maurice Edu (Rangers)
Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus)
Stuart Holden (Bolton)
Jose Torres (Pachuca)

Defenders:
Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes)
Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas)
Steve Cherundolo (Hannover)
Jay DeMerit (Watford)
Clarence Goodson (IK Start)
Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan)
Jonathan Spector (West Ham)
Brad Guzan (Aston Villa)

Goaltenders:
Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton)
Tim Howard (Everton)

I haven't watched soccer in a long time, which is funny considering I'm half Brazilian. This is the first time in a while both Brazil and Japan (my two heritages) are in it.

I'm a white guy from rural Ontario. I know nothing of soccer... just that people get really excited about it and the field is way too big.

You see that USA squad littered with players who play top flight in Europe (and you can place Landon Donovan in that bracket having played in the German Bundesliga and more recently with Everton on loan [against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City]), and wonder why England and their supporters are so smug about that game.

Jeez, England were 1-0 down to Japan today for a long period of the game, and only won 2-1 through TWO Japanese own goals.

If I was a gambling man, I'd put a few bob on the USA beating England... The England team are overpaid, overrated, and sterile in their thinking on the pitch. And having Rio Ferdinand as captain and recalling that tortoise Carragher - do me a favour. Spain, Brazil, Argentina (with Messi, Tevez and Milito, the guy who scored the two goals for Inter in the Champions League final) and Germany must be pissing themselves laughing at us. If he hadn't got injured, we'd have had that useless piece of shite, Beckham, on the pitch!!!

Spoken like a true Everton fan. ie. a load of bollox. You would never see Carragher as a good choice!! Prejudice!

The individuals are top players, whether they have or do play for Liverpool or Man U, it's a question of whether they can play together well. Judging on the Mexico and Japan game, I sure hope they up the ante!!

Drude,

Even my son, a rabid Liverpool supporter, says Carragher is a spent force as a defender. Lost a yard or so of pace. Definitely struggling. Believes Agger & Skyrtl (sp) are the central pair for the future.

Gerrard is off form because of the revelations that are going to hit the media once the World Cup is over. Big shit, man, and he's out of the country, pronto.

I agree that thay are all 'big-name' players, but for me, they do not gel as a cohesive unit. If he's not scoring goals, Lampard is a waste on the pitch. The centre of the defence (Ferdinand, an older, slower Terry, Carragher) is brittle and will get murdered once they come up against a really strong attacking side, and we don't have a goalkeeper that we can have any kind of confidence in (and we used to pride ourtselves on that very thing).

Not a load of bollox, old bean, but a realistic assessment of the team.

And part of the reason why English young players are not coming through, is because twats like Wenger and Benitez hardly have an English player in the squad, never mind on the pitch! And before you say it, yes it repeats throughout the Premiership, but those two are the main perps for me.

Yeah but in reality, some punters around the world are saying similar things and having exactly the same forum discussions about their own National team.

It's a funny old game :thumb:

Have the faith John, they need our support ffs!

We Still Believe, and all that. Belief can inspire!! :dude:

kmk, your enthusiasm is almost contagious. But it's not. I really can't think of anything more boring than watching men play soccer on television. I'd rather just go ahead and die. :)
