What's worse is now all these people think they have something valuable when they come across
one of the "Made in Japan" guitars. You can see these crappy bolt-ons on CL & fleabay for $400-500

Alot of people do have great 70's and 80's MIJ. Not ALL companies were making a crap product and fake HBs.

Maybe, but I've yet to come across a "good" bolt-on from the 60's or 70's and I've come
across quite a few.

This is OLD NEWS to me... i first saw this back in the 70s, we called them " japanese junk" back in the day and with the notable exceptions of Ibanez ESP and Yamaha. i still don't care to own anything made "over there"

I have an awesome Japanese-made Robin from about '87. I love it! Of course, none of the original electronics are in it anymore. ;)

Yup, you fell for the oldest trick in the book.:D
I don't understand why you never came across this before. Were you a rich kid growing up and never had any cheap jap guitars?:laugh2:

oH... I had cheap guitars dude.. but.. they were so cheap they didn't even TRY to hide the cheapness...

I've probably come across it before.. but.. just never bothered to look under the cover!!!!

The thing seemed to have decent p/up covers so i pulled one out but it felt light. I took the over off and found this:
AA5ACDE5-6EF6-4330-A65E-E54798D6A562-501-000000FD2A4A62D9.jpg

see thats it... the biggest reason I noticed that there were fake humbuckers in there was that the pickups had "vent Holes" in the base plate,I say vent holes becasue there was nothing behind then.. just empty space!!!!!!

The more i think about it.. I've pulled quite a few "bucker" equipped junkers apart and wondered why there were 250k pots in em... :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

I actually thought of that trick for anybody that likes single coil tone in a humbucker size casing, glad to know it works.
