The Burger Thing is in talks right now to buy Tim Horton's up here in Maple syrup land.. we have a few Burger Things here but they are few and far between. I've heard the reason is to get even a bigger corporate tax break than they would get in the U.S. Not sure if that's true, but sounds about right. Moar $$$$

maybe not. but they do have far better medical care in Cuba. Whenever someone rich and powerful needs some treatment or operation they travel to Cuba to have it done.

And Beijing says that everyone in China is quite happy. They probably aren't making $100k each, but they could be. And that would be very fair.

A buddy visits China for work. The workers are paid crap and have nothing like OSHA to look out for safety. Told us about a girl that needed a work-related above the elbow amputation: She was fired and paid the equivalent of $50 US for losing the arm.

IIRC, doctors are paid around $18-19K in Cuba. Good luck with that here, LOL! That might not even cover a semester of medical school.

all jobs should pay the same. that way we'd have people doing fair work according to their abilities. and the salary would be well above a "living wage". Quality of life will go up for the vast majority of americans and the wealth gap is closed.

Bottom line, our free enterprise, capitalist economic system is a pretty sorry system, but it is the best economic system that anybody in the world has devised. The problem with our system is that is must maintain certain balances, and seems to have a natural tendency to get out of balance. This thread is about income inequality, and some degree of this is actually good for a system like ours. The problem is that when (as now) too much inequality occursThe system in in danger of wrecking itself. It is like playing a guitar with overdrive cranked into the amp. A certain amount sounds good. But crank it to 11, and you just may end up with a bunch of indistinguishable fizz and fuzz.

If too much wealth goes to the upper small percent, the money does not get spent. It get invested, and no customers spending happens.The lower percent groups in terms of wealth and income would like to buy more and be stronger customers for business, but but they don't have the money to do so, because all the money went to the higher wealth and income groups. As a result, American business is experiencing a shortage of customers, and closures are not uncommon. In turn, that causes fewer jobs to exist for the lower and middle groups, and worsens the downward cycle.

In a very twisted way, I sort of believe the system is working exactly as designed.

Perhaps we should take the FennRx plan to the nth level and pay no one. Let the Govt take care of all our needs and just keep printing money. It might also be necessary to invade a few countries for raw materials.

Or perhaps we don't need more people who are forced to turn to government assistance due to low wages. We need fewer--or none. Of course, we need a social safety net for the elderly, disabled, and workers whose skills have been displaced. Every civilized country needs these things. On the other hand, the thought of a worker who works hard for 40 hrs/wk needing to turn to government assistance just makes me want to puke. Not blaming the worker at all. Am blaming the employer.

...and don't forget Cuba is a luxury vacation spot also, and just a short boat ride from our shore, or swim, depending on which way you're headed.
