Farewell threads! I can't get enough of 'em! The more pages the better! We all spend an hour on the front porch of the MLP house crying our eyes out and waving our hankies "Good luck bro'!" "See ya around buddy!" "Keep playin' that old Gibby!" Then we spend another hour remindng each other what a bloody good guy has just left and the old place won't seem the same without him and we all wander back inside the MLP house and find the fucker sat with his feet up on the sofa,(metaphorically speaking) draining the last drop from the goodwill bottle and spouting off about speedknobs! Holy Moley!

But of course it's easy to forget we are one big family here in the MLP house and all families have their little spats. I wish I had a dollar for every time I told Matron I was leaving her, so I'm glad we all kiss and make up in the end. Even when old Cookie-boy was sent to the "Cooler" for a month I bet old Alex, Flick' and b-squared had some terrible sleepless nights worrying about him!:naughty:

Mind you, there's been some classics! Dear old Gunner, who I honestly believe genuinely cares about every member here, wrote a fabulous "Elvis has left the building" type obituary thread for Vasthorizon who'd apparantly gone for good, ridden off into the sunset. Vast then popped up on the third page and asked a question about Nashville bridges or something! I fucking loved that one. It was like turning up at your own funeral! Old Vast was hiding behind the sofa all the time!

And what about my dear old mate Murfdogs farewell thread "Bowing out!". I always thought that should have read "Bow-wow-wowing out!" Get it!

Anyways, keep 'em coming and whaever you do, don't leave quitely!

I told myself I won't be here because of you, Cookie-Boy. But I have gained a lot of friends through this forum. I can't let your presence bother me anymore. Have you realized why I haven't posted in any of your threads or replied to any of your posts before? Because of the sole reason that I do not want to sink to your level anymore. I am not writing this to defend myself but to defend my friend, Gunner, because he might look like a fool in front of the other members because of this thread. Some very important members have left because of you and what you have caused, Cookie-Boy. All the posts that appeal to the conscience of the members... All the so called "witty" threads posted by the infamous Cookie-Boy... All of them have been read, responded to, and accepted by majority of the members... What does that mean? That they agree to you, yes. What are your intentions in stirring the pot? That, I do not know...

PS. I am not yet dead, Cookie-Boy...

Don't kid yourself Sentry, they're compulsive reading!

They're not healthy though, Cookie Boy.

What are the motivations for those?

1. Imposing a guilt trip. OK, maybe we should feel bad, but why rub EVERYONE's noses in it?

2. Attention Whoring. I don't like that much either.

3. Dramatics that the Queen of England herself would find annoying.

I know the implication behind them: "You have FAILED me as a member of this site! I can't stand it anymore...!! Goodbye to...those who were kinda nice to me!!"

Whatever.

Sometimes? Hey, I'll admit...it works. I do get sad when some people just flame out or blast off publicly like that. But it's still...uncool.

I also don't think whatever gratification someone thinks they'll get out of that is worth it...hey, you might enjoy watching a metaphorical bridge go up in flames for a few minutes after it's been burned...but once it's gone...it's gone.

So no, I don't like 'em. Just an opinion, and sure...watching the follies of message boards can be amusing at times...but at the same time I don't think anyone "wins" when one of those go down. The poster comes off like a pathetic drama queen, and the rest of the site comes off more times often than not as a bunch of mocking jackasses because yes, the initial impression of the right thing to do is to make cruel fun of someone like that because that is the NATURAL thing to do in light of such pathetic behavior. (and no, the casual observer will have no idea of what brought such theatrics about...)

Of course, some might disagree with that, and that's fine...but Sheesh...it's just a FORUM, for Pete's Sake. And if you find this personally insulting...well, hey, all apologies....

But at the same time there's better ways to do that sort of thing than to just flame out for the sake of the Peanut Gallery. Peace Out.

What is the purpose of creating threads like these? To be famous? To appear witty? I know you are brilliant Cookie-Boy... We all know that...

Now you insult people? You make fun of them for you to be considered brilliant and full of thoughts?

Dude, just one thing: PLEASE, IF YOU WANT TO BE WISE AND NOT A WISE-ASS, GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR POINT.

Drama Queen stunts, it's like a trainwreck you know it's bad but you gotta look anyways.

People get butt hurt over stuff and gotta make a grand exit, "goodbye cruel world".

Vast, you get me all wrong. I'm highlighting how much people love this place and that even when they leave, for whatever reason, they come back to it. Just like the family home really. That's all. And I'm certainly not criticising Gunner or trying to make him look a fool I'm actually showing how much he cares. Fact.

Vast Horizon.

I sense that Cookie Boy bothers you.

Cookie Boy isn't so important as that post he just typed. Responding to Cookie Boy as a poster is secondary vs. the post he just typed....

And of course, if it's all ridiculous....there's no point in bothering with it, is there?

That's just my perception....and I thought I'd share that....

Cookie Boy...I have a confession to make.....

I don't really care too much about the drama of the site unless my own ability to post is at stake. I like interacting with people here....but if it's too much....hey, there's a perfectly good Les Paul in the corner, waiting to be played.

Peace Out.

Well I think they're healthy. I think it's healthy for someone who has become frustrated over something that's been written, an opinion they don't agree with or perhaps the response to something they themselves have written to be able to let off steam a bit and throw their toys out the pram.

How many time have you downed tools and walked off a job in frustration. You may have regretted it later but boy it felt good at the time. That's all I'm saying. Don't get goofed up about it.

I don't think it's healthy to take something seriously which shouldn't be taken seriously in the first place.

It's a message forum.

And this is already one extra post too many for me as far as this thread goes...:slash:

It's frankly amazing how many different ways there are to interpret a paragraph or 2. (I actually took a course in the proper use of email in a professional setting and the gist of it was that email is one of the best things to happen to business and also one of the worst. You basically have 2 sentences to get your point across because after that the recipient is done.) But I digress...

My point is that when I first read this post I took it evidently as CB meant it, i.e. MLP is addictive. Sentry took it totally different, VH took it personally (just my observation, not a criticism), and lp took it in a different direction entirely.

My point? I have none...just an observation.

Sentry that is exactly my point!!!!!! It shouldn't be taken seriously. I've never posted on a "farewell thread" and said anything spitefull or nasty. Plenty have. "Goodbye and good luck" has done for me.

The whole point of this thread, and let's bear in mind it's in the Backstage and has been done a little tongue in cheek, is to highlight how people are drawn back to this place. Did I say that I enjoyed the name calling and bitching? No. I hate that. Listen, when you were in your early teens did you ever leave home, for good, only to tip toe back in through the kitchen door when you got a little hungry and cold?

Come on people, lighten up a little!

Cookie Boy....IN case you haven't figured it out...I have the personality, sense of humor, a perception towards irony, and all of the Zazz of a turnip.

I'm not weighing levity, humor, graciousness, or the addictive nature of this forum. I am only responding directly to your message.

I don't like it when people's feelings get hurt. I don't enjoy what comes out of that.

BillB.....if you need 2 sentences to offer a conclusion as to my rebuttal, the 2 above will do quite nicely.

(and that's 2 posts 2 many for this thread. :slash: :slash: )
