Looks like someone just took an old white Norlin Custom, sanded the neck down and did the paint job themselves. Could be real, the headstock looks real.

Man...it really is buyer beware buying an old gibson nowdays. :(

Well, it says in the ad that it's not a real Zakk Wylde and nobody said it's not a real Gibson.
Or did you expect his signature guitars were already built when he was 12?

I know that it is not a real ZW, I don't care about that. I was interested in knowing if it was a real Gibson Les Paul.

So, why were you disappointed? Nobody said it's not real! :hmm:

I guess I misunderstood this quote:

2 months ago, I never would have thought to even validate a Les Paul that I was considering purchasing , but then I stumbled upon the fakes, which eventually led me to these forums (which I'm very grateful for!).

Shifty - do you think the on that I posted from that ebay listing is real?

Thanks!

Ah, ok.

Do I think it's real? I'm not a Gibson expert enough when it comes to things like, is this vintage correct for that era, or something like that. But that definately looks like a real Gibson to me. It looks fairly old, it has the 'Norlin era' multi piece neck.
I would say it's real, until one of the real Gibson experts proves me wrong.

This is fake. I got it when I first started playing in a trade, thinking it was real. I got burned but still have it.

I have one as well, it's being massacred as we speak. So far I've removed the back veneer and front veneer to see what kind of wood is underneath. Just wait until I show you photos from the process, the top wood is stunning....ly fugly! I used a heat gun to soften up the veneer glue and went to town with a scrape. Here and there under it there were these extra pieces glued on over puttied holes, knots and what appears to be blue ink (whaaa?). I just had to laugh at the trouble these people building it had to go through to be able to use the wood. Next up is removing the finish on the neck and sides.

Kola, thanks man. I remember all the crap that was thrown at you when you first bought the payless. It continued even after you explained what you were going to do. Well your pics here are the best argument I've yet seen against buying forgeries, and I'm sure people will use them to educate others. Thanks for sharing your experience.
