I've encountered them for a long time. I just can't tell if it is a fake. Someone post a thread like the Fake Epiphone Thread II please.

In Sables banning breath, these words were spoken by he/she/it. ^^

In honor of the one who's Nibs were greater then any of ours, i have started this Fake detecting thread, that SABLE SOMEHOW could not figure out how to start.:rolleyes:

Please, can the experts all come together to explain how to spot a banned Gibson?? Even though it's the same signs as Epi's, i believe we should honor the wishes of MLP's greatest Bullshitter/Luthier:thumb:

its really quite simple.
I will not go into detail,but will simply state....study the pics :shock:

My Studio LP is just that...a US manufactured Gibson Les Paul Studio in ebony w/chrome hardware,purchased used in February.
The Standard LP you see is indeed a chinese pirate LP,Tobaccoburst,with aftermarket p'ups and electronics...I traded a legitimate guitar for this used...hmmmmm "specimen".:hmm:
study the pics....if/when you stumble across one of these in your daily life you will know...it is just "not right"
shape,hardware type and placement,fretboard,logo,wood,etc......all wrong :cool:

The where is irrelevent,it was acquired second-hand...and both parties new what they were trading. :cool:

I have one as well, it's being massacred as we speak. So far I've removed the back veneer and front veneer to see what kind of wood is underneath. Just wait until I show you photos from the process, the top wood is stunning....ly fugly! I used a heat gun to soften up the veneer glue and went to town with a scrape. Here and there under it there were these extra pieces glued on over puttied holes, knots and what appears to be blue ink (whaaa?). I just had to laugh at the trouble these people building it had to go through to be able to use the wood. Next up is removing the finish on the neck and sides.

Makes me want to start a lobby group in favor of the following: Falsified Guitar Abolishment Act of 2009. Would require fakes to be identified and destroyed in large bonfires in the middle of major city streets. People who did the identification would get tax credits equal to the value of the guitar (the value of the guitar as a fake, not as if it were the valid guitar.) Knowingly hiding fakes would be punishable by 100 hours of community service.

Get some bbq and live music and call it a national holiday.

Okey, I'm done with this piece of junk now. As the pictures will tell, it's definitely amazing quality wood being used in these guitars.:laugh2:

I had a little naphtha on the back here to enhance the flaws. As you may notice I made a little belly cut in it as well, haha.

And yes, I know I messed up the bevel on the back edge, but who cares.

OMG! :eek::eek::eek:
I think you should post these pictures in Dennis' "Why would you even want a 'fake'? thread in the other Les Pauls section, for the people that say that a chinese knock off provides the 'same feel' as a real Gibson.:rolleyes:
