Anyone know how to get this tone? Seems like kirk is using a wah or something, I can't figure out what.
Any help would be appreciated

which solo? there's 3, he uses a wah as a filter on the outro solo

he doesn't really 'rock' it much, it's just on. (A Joe Satriani trick :thumb: )

isn't the line "fade to black" from the song Haitian Divorce ?? I know at least one of the solo's on this song, if not all of them was done by Dean Parks ... Larry Carlton handed Dean Parks his guitar and they tracked "Haitian Divorce" ... later, Becker and Fagen called Dean back to do an overdub with a talk box, and gave him the option to do it or just record the solo and have them talk-box it later, which is what he chose ...pages 174 and 175 of Beauty of the Burst show photos of Joe Perry, Don Felder and Joe Walsh all performing with talk- boxes ... love it, love it, love it !!!

Michael Schenker is only 1 year older than Satriani.

So maybe and maybe not. They're both mid 60s in age

The outro solo does not sound like a cocked wah to me. Just guitar, amp, EQ and reverb.

Ahhh - good memories! First song I learned to play because a friend wanted someone to play the rhythm part while he played the lead parts over them. He lent me his extra guitar and taught me how to play it. Then after our little jam session we'd go out and smoke the tires off his hot rodded Plymouth Duster! :dude:

“I was still using my black Flying V on Ride the Lightning, but ‘Fade to Black’ sounds different—it has a warmer sound—because I used the neck pickup and played through a wah-wah pedal all the way in the ‘up’ position,” says Kirk Hammett.

I'll also add, IF he had EMG's fitted to the flying V (I see pics of him that year with both passive from like January and EMG in June - the album was recorded February) then its more than likely an EMG 'H' in the neck which is actually a single coil in a humbucker case.
