What a bummer. And right after Jules Bianchi's crash at the Japanese GP. Sad day for F1.

It's not looking good for Bianchi. They're not saying much, but the side-on impact with the tractor tore off the roll hoop behind the cockpit, which means he had to have submarined under the back end of it.

Having tractors on the side of the track during the race with no SC has always seemed unnecessarily risky to me, and now this happens. A lot of questions need to be answered.

JV has an opinion (as usual :wow:) but I'm thinking he's got a good point here. I know when I had any type of "incident" and was in a vulnaerable place, one of your biggest fears is getting nailed by someone else "at speed". Here's hoping Jules is okay.

Double yellow flags, which means slow down big time, were out shortly after the Sutil accident and the safety car was called. All the drivers would have been aware of this and driving accordingly. Sounds callous to say it but it was simply that million to one accident like Masa being hit by a suspension spring (a couple of degrees either side and you walk away.)

Fingers crossed and hope he'll be back for 2015 season.

That was a devastating crash. Hope everything works out ok for him. One thing I will give Nascar and Indycar, they do not race when the emergency crews are anywhere near the track. F1 needs to really look at changing that. The presence of heavy equipment like that IN FRONT of the barriers just shouldn't happen when a driver could potentially hit it.

Saw where the FIA is trying to get that video banned. Outlook for JB is not real positive from what I've seen.

NASCAR does it right, even to the point they go over board sometimes but the safety of the drivers should always be the number 1 priority as well as the emergency response team that puts themselves in danger too.

RIP Andrea. Will be remembered fondly.

As for Bianchi,

I just wonder why there is a marshall behind the recovery vehicle waving greens.

I remember hearing about that guy back in the day, and I'm not an F1 fan... May God rest his soul.
