So I started my week off right. Left for work this morning, got about a mile from home and this happened:

On the plus side, I got a 2016 Chrysler 200 with all the bells and whistles as a rental till they figure out what to do about my car.

How far off the road did you have to go to get it? :)

Thanks R. It sounded a lot worse than it felt.

I think he committed suicide by car. He met me in my lane. By the time my brain processed what it was, my hood folded up and I couldn't see him.

Knocked the antlers right off his head, I did.

Ruts just about to start here. Another week or two and things will be crazy. Several years ago it was "Wonder if I'll see any deer driving at night". Now it's "Wonder how many I'll see driving at night". It was 5 last night in the 20 miles home from my sons. I've only gotten 2 in my life so I figure I'm about due.
Glad you weren't hurt. The most serious accidents happen when people swerve to miss them and roll their car. Just hit the damn things. Better to have a wrecked car than a wrecked you.

Texas and Pennsylvania rank number 1 and number 2 for deer collisions.

Glad it wasn't worse. I fear them on the motorcycle this time of year.

Thanks man. Pretty sure the car's totaled. It's a 2006 with 160K on it.

Thinkin' the repair cost is gonna exceed the value.

I just had two does run right in front of me when driving through the outskirts on Saturday night!

I used to drive to work at 6:30 AM, it was a new job, so I was still figuring out the best route. Let me tell you the northern end of the Palisades Parkway was not it! These deer were standing all over the road like they were having coffee and reading the paper. I'd blow the horn and have to drive around them as they seemed to glare at me.... Friggin' deer!

My friends on Long Island think they're beautiful and nice to have around, down here in VA we think they're a nuisance best used for food.

Glad you're OK.

This time of year it's impossible to be aware enough to stay out of their way.
When the chase is one, they are moving!

I sometimes worry about getting run over walking from the driveway to the front porch.

True dat! I won't ride anytime near dusk now. Things are dumb as squirrels right now. Dead bucks all over the place.

Long-legged forest rats. More of 'em in Virginia today than when John Smith first sloshed ashore at Jamestown. Positive menace on the roads, and destructive as heck to crops (and my roses).
