EVH 5150 iii VS Marshall JCM 800 2203 (Vintage or New)

I am looking to buy a halfstack and I know I will get a speaker cab with V30's in them. But I want to know which one you guys will say is better EVH 5150 iii or Marshal JCM 800 2203 if the Marshall vintage or new?
I also want to get an attenuator but I am clueless on which one I should get?

The 5150 III is awesome. If you went with that I'd recommend seriously considering the matching cab since the speakers are voiced for the amp.

Webber Mass attenuators are good, so I hear. My friend has an Aracom that is quite nice.

My over all recommendation with any amp purchase is to not get too carried away with what you will or won't do with it, mods, accessories, etc. before you own it and/or have a really good chance to know what it sounds like in the first place.

FWIW: the 5150 III 212 combos will start shipping the end of June and have a variable power feature from 1 watt to 50. Seems like a guy like you might want to look into that possibility.

I don't like the 2203 past 78' 79' or anything after....If you can find a 76', 77' 2203 then yea thats a rocker....

I played through a White EVH something or other at GC the other week and it was screaming. don't know if it was a III however....They put the stand by switch in the back.....dumb move.....

The 5150, had a real tight roar, if you have a chance to A/B a 2203 and the EVH do so. I am going back to that GC to look at another LP....What do you want to know about the EVH? Because I will play that one again. Standby switch in the back is a dumb idea....I think I said that already....but just to make sure....you should have a clear understanding that it is a dumb idea. First mod....move the switch....

Reaching back....to switch it off.....I dinged a guitar....didn't matter because it was an aged Murphy. If it were mine (the Guitar) I would be pretty angry. But it wasn't.....

The III does sound much more "Marshall" than the PV 5150 I & II. But I agree, there is a difference here.

Still think checking out the 212 combo is still in order, especially for a guy who is planning on getting an attenuator before he even gets the amp. Nothing wrong with that but why not kill two birds with one stone and do it for half the price in the mean time?

The 212 combo will have variable power scaling built in: 1-50 watts. Not exactly the same as an attenuator, but close enough for bedroom needs... you know what I mean...

I have a 1981 JCM800 2203 that I run in 50 watt mode with KT88's, I also have a EVH 5150 III 50 Watt. I can get the 5150 III to sound almost exactly like the JCM800, so close most people cannot tell the difference. I would go with 5150 III and matching cab.
