Ever feel like you are "there" with LPs and guitars in general?

I had to laugh out loud as I read this old thread by my dear friend @cherrysunburst00,... as we both know how long that lasted.

Today I am pretty good with what I have. I had a Junior fetish recently and I think I got that covered. Maybe another bass.... and that’s it for off the rack stuff.

Now I’m into Custom luthier crafted.

A couple more by my favorite luthier @LtDave32 and his DSG models.... I’m hoping for an exclusive all original design DSG.

That’ll be it...... maybe

And this right here is the issue. Do you play guitar or do you play with guitars?
After 40 plus years a little of both. I worked hard to play guitar,.... and performed hard with next to nothing and I retired from all that (as gigging and road tripping is for the young)....now it’s time to play with them.

;)

HOPE IT LASTS!!

I'll give it a week ;)

Seriously... I've gone back and forth. Major GAS in the 90s... got the collection up to maybe 14 or 15. Ended up selling three and gifting two.
About 6 years ago, I added an electric and an acoustic, then a couple of years ago, I caught another case of GAS and in that time have picked up a US Fender, Partscaster, three Gibsons, Harley Benton, and a D'Angelico.
I have two more Partscasters waiting in the wings when I want to make time.

But for the most part, I really don't have duplicates. Even the similar models have unique tone or feel. A couple I've not bonded with, but those really aren't worth selling.

Current inventory? From oldest to newest....
Mid-80s Kramer Focus Rhoads V
Sigma 12 string
Epiphone Sheraton-II
Epiphone PR-5E
G&L Climax H-S-S (Mid 90s)
G&L S-500 (Mid 90s)
Squier Mini w/internal amp/speaker
'14 Epiphone Aged Cherry SG
'14 Taylor 214DLX
'17 Oly White US Strat
'19 Tele Partscaster
'19 D'Angelico EXL-1
'19 Harley Benton SC450 Goldtop P90
'19 LP Standard '60s
'19 Flying V
'20 SG Standard refitted with P90s

I have a Strat body that matches the Tele body. They'll be basically the same style, both with Vintage Noiseless pickups, but a different neck profile. The Strat body is going to take some work on the drill press, since the neck and bridge were not drilled properly (I bought the body and had it shipped directly to the painter, so I'll have to make it work). Neither of these are really intended to be "players".... just "wall hangers"
I also have a 3-bolt Warmoth body that I'm going to have LtDave paint... but lately I've been waffling on what color I want.

Here's the Tele not quite completed.....

Amps? I'm a little more conservative.... at the present time ;)
I need to get an actual studio set up and get out of the bedroom... a plan I've had in place for 20 years

Carvin X100, built an oak 4x10 to match it for a cool 5ft tall stack.
1st Gen US-made Blues Jr
Fender Stage Lead 212 (that's another one that's not worth selling... I may build a Mojotone Twin Reverb and put it in the cabinet)
Marshall MG15CFR
Blackstar Fly-3
Assorted "toy" amps... Fender tweed twin, Epiphone tweed, Marshall stack
I've got a Spark on its way.

I never feel like I am "there."

I must own 20 pretty nice guitars at this point. Clearly I don't "need" another guitar. But I still find myself lusting for this or that guitar that I don't own -- Jeff Beck 54 Les Paul, Jimmy Page telecaster, three or four different Rickenbacker models. What I am really craving is inspiration, and I suffer at times from the delusion that a new instrument will bring inspiration with it. Sometimes a new guitar does bring inspiration, but other times not.

There’s a few more pieces I’d like to get in life obviously, but I think I’m good for a couple of years. I need a forever tele eventually (MIM.. maybe american for the right price) and a casino.. i could also go for a really nice gold top. But yeah unless a good deal comes along I’m pretty set. I recently got into spacey, atmospheric pedals so I may spend a year or two on them.

I’m definitely there with LPs. I have one with Lowe wind unpotted PAF style pickups and one with a JB/59 set. I guess I could get one with P90s but if I ever go that route I’ll probably get a Reverend Warhawk 390.

I do really want a nice ES-335 though. And a 52 Reissue Tele. So I’m far from there overall.

With LPs, almost there.
Want to replace the Harley Benton with a Gibson P90 Golt Top
That'll be "there"... but I would like a Custom in the stable.

Is this a 'safe place'? Hi, I'm Rob and I have too many guitars.
That's right. Too many. As in more than I need, as in more than I want. I'd sell a few but the market is so crap at the moment it's not even worth it. I have 4 stacked away that don't even get played. I have two I routinely play (my '94 standard and (modified) Chinese Jet) and one that I'm only keeping for sentimental value (my 6120).
Heck, I don't even have an amp anymore - well, I do but it's out of commission (1964 Philips running 2 6CM5's)
I think something's wrong with me.....

Totally true! In fact (ironically), of all those guitars I mentioned in my post back in 2017, only one remains in my possession. All the others we sold and/or traded away for others (many of which were also sold and/or traded for yet others)... so in short, I was full of crap back in 2017 and nowhere near “there”! LOL!

I definitely have more singlecuts than I ought to

There is a semi-hollow I still really want but I do have some of those as well (Blueshawk, Gretsch, Edwards 335 type made from all solid carved wood and a custom shop Greco 335 type as well with the traditonal laminated top/back/sides). So I really don't need that either, but my heart wants it badly.

I'm getting ready to try my hand at building and then I will probably have to force myself to sell some of my others! Right now I'm going to make myself part with 3. One is already spoken for, one I need to list and the third I just got in and it needs frets and a new harness and probably some other things as well. That last one is one of my projects for fun. Not sure how many more projects I'll end up bringing home as I feel like it's time for me to learn some new skills like finishing and making bodies/necks/fbs, etc.

At this point, I feel I'm "there." My roster consists of a 60's LP Standard, LP Studio, Ric 330 (in fireglow), Martin HD-28, Martin D-28, Martin D-18, Guild JF30 12 string (Westerly, RI), and an old Ovation Balladeer. I just don't have a hankering for much else ... right now.

I’m close. I want an R4 but it’s just not a responsible purchase at the moment. Maybe after I get the check from Steve for security services at this year’s mlp mixer.

I have five at present, but I alternate between two Les Pauls. My oldest is a 19+year-old Classic with Seth’s and my 2018 Traditional with BB 1 & 2. I thinking I could part with my two Strats and a Hamer a Studio Custom because all three get minimal playing time. Les Pauls are “cool” guitars ( so states Slash himself) and I think I know what he meant when he uttered that. I feel like if I have the right amp(s) I could play almost any style of music with just my two. If I part with those three, I know I will be all set for a long time to come. I honestly don't see anything on the current market, new or old, that inspires me to the point of wanting it.
