Hi all! Hope nobody minds me posting this in the Historic & Reissues section. Figured it might be of interest over here.

So... I had a refret go bad, which resulted in the marring of my Gibson ES-355. It was ugly. This 355 is my favorite guitar, so I was crushed. I settled with the wrong-doer, and after a nice chat with Kip Elder, I sent her off to Florida for a proper refret and refinish.

I told Kip that I wanted the appearance of a 50+ year old ES-355 that had been well played, though not abused.

She's coming along, so I thought I would post some of the progress pics. She's had her final coats and is ready to buff out. If you guys don't mind, I will update when completed. Should be nice! Thanks for looking!

Jeez, how wrong did the refret go to demand a refinish of the guitar?

Well, the guitar did not 'need' to be refinished. But... I was sending the guitar to a guy who does great luthier and paint work. We originally discussed touching up the paint, but I figured it was a good opportunity to go for a refinish and start anew.
Simply my decision and at my expense. No biggie :)
Just thought you guys might be interested in the process. Again, thanks for looking :)

Don't get me wrong I like/love a black guitar. But yours has flame in it. Why hide it Lex? Blonde guitars are the most sought after vintage 3x5s. But burst and cherry show flame well too.

Just a question not a criticism.

No worries, OBX. While I think that a flamed blonde ES-355 would be very nice, I just love an old black custom with that aged smokey/yellowed clear coat. Just a preference.
When Kip told me about the flame sure, I wanted to see it, but It didn't matter. This one was going to stay black :)
