I couldn't find any thread on this guitar Eric Clapton used during his days with Cream. So here's some information about his lovely Gibson Firebird I.

Clapton bought this one-pickup (mini-humbucker) guitar in Philadelphia at the end of April 1968. He used it during Cream's last American tour. Clapton played the Firebird during the first show of their last performance at the Royal Albert Hall on November 26 1968. He played his famous ES-335 the second show. Confusingly, the film 'Cream's Farewell Concert' mixes performances from the first and second show. It does not match the setlists from that memorable day.

I was wondering if someone got any other pics of Clapton playing his Firebird. Here are mine …

Firebird I's remind me of Les Paul Juniors: one pickup, simple and oh so sweet,

I may not play them that much any more but I really think the Firebird is the coolest looking guitar on the planet, seriously awesome. BTW this picture is hanging in my office:

I think he used it on "White Room", although I'm not sure.

I was just curious if you had a source, I've long speculated myself (though I'm pretty sure White Room, Sitting On Top of the World and Born Under a Bad sign were the SG) Politician does sound alot like a Firebird/mini-HB to me

The studio recordings for Wheels of Fire were completed a month before the live tracks were recorded (March 1968) so the Firebird wasn't used on White Room.

From what I can glean, the Firebird is not on any Cream studio recordings, as he used the ES335 on the studio cuts of Goodbye. However, the live recordings (from the LA Forum - October 19, 1968) do feature the Firebird.

wow. Thanks for these pics.

Sure brings back memories - I saw them on that '68 tour, he played the Firebird for the whole show that night.
