Does anyone know if Gibson will accomodate a Serial Number verification for Epiphones like they do for Gibson ? Say to get the specs, where it's made etc ? Reason I'm asking is I'm looking in this epiphone les paul custom supposedly made in 90s with no letters, all numbers. 1020xxxxx

MHZ,I ran it through guitar dater project.Using the first number "1" then the rest of the serial number showed NO results.Omitting the number "1" and making it an I showed this...

Your guitar was made at the
Saein Plant, Korea/China
January 2002
Production Number: 2444 : Maybe the seller has it bass ackwards.Good luck.

Hey man, I'm no expert at all, but I reckon you should run it by the guys on the 'fake epi' thread... it just looks to me like the washers on the tuners are larger than normal and nearly overlapping the diamond motif, and the 'Epiphone' logo on the headstock looks a bit too far over to the left. Also the truss rod cover is almost overlapping the diamond motif too... I might be way off the mark but it couldn't hurt to get one of the guys in the know to look it over for you.

I just bought a used Epiphone Les Paul Studio that appears to be authentic in every way, and why would you fake the most inexpensive Les Paul around? Anyway I cant decode the serial number 09121508331. Any help out there? It is decal'ed on the back of the headstock along with the "hand-crafted in China" sticker and the "inspectioncard QC" sticker.

Well...

It's not fake. At least, I really, really doubt that it is. With that TRC, the serial begins with I. For your serial to begin with a 1, it would have had to have been made in the years 2010-2019 (unless they change the format, again).

Also, Korean Epi's aren't fake, but aren't the exact same to the Chinese. They have some differences that would be seen on fake epi's..but can be real.

If it seems like a great deal, aka way too cheap, then it is a sign that its fake.

Is the serial # on a white sticker near the end of the headstock? i.e., possibly a "used" or "2nd" if that is the case. Although, I've seen Sheratons from the 80's with stickers instead of stamps. I believe they are from the Samick Korea plant.

Or is # actually stamped on the headstock? Because the newer epis are coming from China with no letters. A number beginning with 10 would be a 2010. But I don't believe that is the case here, because of the "Gibson" on the TRC.

That's my 2 cents...There's some some real knowledgeable folks on epi's over at the epi forum who could probably tell for sure.

09=2009
12=Dec
15=Qingdao China

08331 is the production number

OK. Can I jump into this fray? I have an Epiphone Gibson Les Paul copy. It doesn't say Les Paul on the headstock (or anywhere else for that matter). There is nothing on the back, but at the top of the body there is a plate that says HAND-CRAFTED IN KOREA BY EPIPHONE, The Epiphone Company, Nashville, Tennessee USA, then this serial number; 099040300. I have checked every forum and website I can find (including Guitar Dater) and the serial number isn't recognized. HELP!! What do I have?
