Please...Tone is entirely subjective. I dont like Gibsons for the most part because they sound too brittle to me. I prefer the chunkier tone of the crappy wood on th Epi. And I can easily drop in new pups, pots and caps.
Also, if I were to get a Gibson, I'd never be able to swap the pups or electronics without destroying it's value. I'd rather play it and be happy than be worried about it every time I take it out of the case.
"Gibsons" don't have "a" tone. They run the gammit.
Gibsons cost what they cost because of the materials they use. Better woods. Better finishes. Better hardware. Better electronics. Better construction. American labor. And so on and so forth.
Tone may be subjective, but by every measure of objective quality, Gibson trounces their Epiphone cousins. This is the reason for the price difference.
As for tone, you like what you like. That is the subjective measure which has nothing to do with the price tag. Objectively, the difference is pretty clear.
