I am debating to get an Epiphone Les Paul Spl 2 full size for my 8 yr old nephew. Is it better for him to play the full size or I am better of getting Epiphone Les Paul Express? He has been playing a full size Epiphone acoustic for a year. He is on a taller side for an 8 yr old.

If he's OK with a full size acoustic, certainly.

if the kid already know how to play, let him play both, although I would say the full sized one as he already play a full size acoustic .

Acoustic is large (deep). If he can play that, the LP will seem small. Maybe find one of the lighter / chambered ones... a 10 lb guitar will probably be a little heavy for him.

How good of a player is he? The Epiphone LP Special II is not a great guitar. I learned to play on one, but it wasn’t great. The guitar will definitely need a set up to have reasonable playing action and tuning stability The pickups are super muddy and the tone control knob really is a defacto two setting switch. The input jack will likely need to be replaced and the pickup selector switch will fail with reasonable use.

You can get a lot more guitar for a little more money. You would be better off spending $200-300 more on an electric. If the kid drops guitar you’ll be able to sell the used guitar for more than the used LPII, so your net spend on the two guitars would be the same. But the kid is more likely to enjoy playing and stick with it with a slightly bettter instrument. A $500 Mexican made fender can resell all day for $400. You’ll have difficulty finding anyone to pay $100 for a used $200 LP Special II. Either way the loss is $100 but the experience for the player will be 10x better.

Post some video of him or her playing. I always love seeing kids that have better chops than I do at 50!

Consider one of the newer Les Paul Juniors or maybe the new Special

A junior style might be better suited weight and thickness-wise for an 8 year old. The EPI juniors are OK guitars for a beginner, but most probably would benefit by a setup.
