Epiphone Joan Jett Melody Maker.

Has the correct Epiphone Headstock for a 65 Epiphone Melody Maker.

Apart from that it’s Mahogany body and neck.

New Epiphone “Powerhammer Pro” pickup

Damn - I was hoping it would be a copy of the original two-pickup Melody Maker that she got from Eric Carmen . . . .

Didn't know Epi made a melody Maker in the 60's. Learn something new every day!

But that Joan Jett thing.... Can't unsee it.

Epiphone really upped their game the last couple years. I’ve been having high hopes for some of the cool stuff that might be around the corner. This ain’t what I had in mind.

I messaged Al from Epiphone to see if we can get some pickup specs. Very, very annoying to announce a guitar with 1 pickup that you can’t find specs on......

I got this email from Epiphone and ran to place my order!
I am completely stoked to check this puppy out. Other than the color I think they nailed it.
Keep in mind this is not supposed to be her melody maker. She does have an Olympic with one knob and this type of bridge.

The lack of pickup info 100% annoys me.

I would understand if it was a starter pack guitar but it’s meant to be a stand alone model. With 1 pickup. And we can’t even get info on it.

I really like the vintage accurate headstock though

They deleted my YouTube comment where I praised them for releasing a new guitar with a new pickup and gave us 0 info on the pickup.
Dang. I was hoping to get some insight on that pickup. Of course I’m totally curious since they are imply it is a velvet hammer clone. Two rows of screws…interesting.

I went looking to see how the Olympic came to be. It was a US Epiphone built by Gibson using the same materials and hardware as the the Melody Maker, and following the same body changes. I don't like the DC body or the TOM bridge and humbucker, but hey, It's what Joan wanted.
I swapped the pickup in my Gibson '59 MM reissue, but opted for a black Strat-sized lipstick tube and only needed unnoticeable mods to fit it. No routing was required.
