I think the Gibson version of this is $20,000 compared to $900-$1200.

No. The Gibson regular version it's 4K, a bit more than a stock Custom.

The 20K was a very limited run replica, with Tom Murphy ageing to reproduce the original one with same scars and burnt. That custom went fuck'd in a plane cargo crash and bring back to life by Gibson, after more than 30 years (this is why it's called Phenix), and give back to Peter (see the video). Gibson did a replica to celebrate the restoration, and that's the 20K version. The Epiphone has seriously NOTHING to do with that guitar. ;)

It shows back order til Oct 11.
I'm debating getting this guitar or a Gibson BFG.

Is Epiphone now the fanboy signature model brand? The last Epi signature model (my second Iommi) felt like a polished turd. Strong statement, I know, but my point is (IMHO) that they’re churning out display pieces for artist or model fans and the craftsman nuances that make them playable for hours at a time are the corners being cut.

For example, I have two 24 fret gloss black Iommi SGs. The first (2015, initial run) feels better than than the second (2017). My hunch on that second one is they needed to bring production costs down to make the same price point. Still, on both there are all these little sub-par, labor-saving things that trip me up when I practice. I cut my fingers on the fret ends and the pots in 2017 were stamped Korea and long shaft.

Then I have a Gibson 2011 50th anniversary SG with 24 frets in gloss black. Almost identical on paper to the Epi Iommi.

Of the three, I only want to play the Gibson. Of all my guitars, I only want to play that one. Feels like an Instrument (capitalized) and not a wall queen. Details..Fret binding, tuners, the minuscule bits that equal playability.

Love the Frampton. Who’s put 20+ hours on this thing? Who’s played it like they stole it?

Mine came in a snakeskin case.

Anyway, ranting. Epi has all these tasty signature models like the Faulkner, this Frampton, my Budokan collecting dust, the Iommi, etc. I just feel like they’re not built to be rocked.

Oh, and I have OCD so things that needle at me are probably easier to digest for those of you not mentally ill.

Yeah, you get what you pay for. Keep in mind that anything 'signature' means a CHUNK of the price of admission goes back to the artist endorsing it.

Peace See Pee, y”all.

A Cloud! I got one of those (in white). Feels weird with that horn, eh? Did you pre-order from Paisley Park?

I have this dream that I'm going to encase it in acrylic, but real careful like. You only get one chance on that and on such a large scale, the likelihood of it all going wrong is scary.

or maybe I'll just hang it from the wall. Plaster and lathe walls don't take Kindly to attachments (or stud finding).

Got me a Budokan too. That's three we have in common. Have you considered a Madcat or a nice SG?

Would love to get a Madcap. I think a 335 is probably next on my list. I got the Cloud when I toured Paisley Park about a year ago. Having fun with all of these today. Just wish I was more of a player rather than a collector. I just got a ticket to see Tom Morello on Monday so that should give me some inspiration.

I said this 3 times already, in this thread. This is NOT a phenix reissue, same as for the regular Gibson Custom Peter Frampton; They are NOT meant to be a Phenix reissue. They are meant to be modern Customs on Frampton specs, which have a Maple Top, a weight reliefed body, and a “phenix” inspired neck carve.

They are copies of this one, which is a Gibson LP Custom Peter Frampton (maple cap and everything);

Not this one (phenix):

Only the 12k Phenix replica is based on the real deal. The others never meant to be a 54.

Hmm... So Sweetwater charged me for my new guitar, but I guess it did not pass there QC before it went out to me. So I am going to be waiting a little bit longer before I can get mine. Supposedly they got a few in and my guy at Sweetwater did not say specifically that there is an issue with them, but that is what it sounded like, like some kind of QC issue and they have to wait for more to come in before they can send any out.

Good thing I am purchasing my guitar from a company like Sweetwater that won't send out a guitar that it not in tip top shape.
