Anyone had any experience with the Epiphone EJ200's?

I've been looking at getting a new acoustic and I'm pretty set on getting a jumbo. I'd love to go nuts and buy a the Gibson version or a Guild (played both and I'm in love) but sadly I can't really afford to spend thousands of dollars on a new guitar.

I've tried to track down an EJ200 locally so I can try it out but no luck so far so it looks like I'd have to buy online. If you've played or owned one please let me know how you found it and how it stands up to its Gibson cousin.

Any alternate jumbo acoustic suggestions would be awesome, just keep in mind that I don't want to spend over 1K at the moment.

are you willing to push close to the 1k limit?

Go out and try a Takamine EG523SC. It's 700$ new at GC since you have that 1k budget :p

I tried the ej200 a week ago and found it to be really quiet for a jumbo. I tried it with an epi hummingbird and the hummingbird was a lot louder. What about a mini jumbo? Seagull makes an awesome mini jumbo

There's one here locally I've been pondering whether or not to pick up.

I've tried the Epiphone EJ-200CE, which is essentially the same guitar. Differences are that the CE comes with a cutaway, and pickup system. Now, the "new" models of 2011 or (something like that) has a GREAT pickupsystem. It basically has two pickups, a Shadow Nanoflex (piezo under the bridge) and a Shadow Nanomag (magnetic pickup located at the end of the fretboard). The built in preamp lets you choose either of them, and any blend you fancy!

Simply awesome. I definately will pick one up when I can afford it.

Here's a Yamaha LJ6 ebony fretboard rosewood body Engelmann spruce top and only $500. I have a 70's Yamaha acoustic that is my #1

Item# 270853886492 if the link doesn't work

Or go to your local Yamaha dealer and try it out. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Epis' acoustics are just like any other builder, they're hit and miss. I have played some EJ200s that sounded fantastic and others were simply lifeless.
With a budget of $1000 I would be looking at some other brands and if you check the used market you could get a heck of a guitar for that.

Or better yet an LJ16, I can only speak for the LL series but I've always found the 16s were a big step over the 6s and for little to no extra money.:thumb:

I have the EJ-200ce that I do find very good but only with the correct strings.I have tried a number of different brands but for mine with the Gibson J200 strings I do like it. I also had the LL16 from Yamaha and found it very nice.

Hope I´m not too late??

Did you bought a guitar now?

I bought an Epi EJ-200EC in natural last Friday and I had to tell you that it´s a really good instrument (especially for the price). Looks killer, has a good PU-system, excellent playability. It´s my 4th Epi acoustic (this EJ200EC, a Hummingbird, a Texan insp. 1964 and a J200EVS) all in all I have around a dozen full of steelstrings, no Gibson at the moment, but there are other fine (and expensive) guitars in that collection.

Made a setup and changed strings to 11-47 (easier to bend, low action... but the sound is full enough), Elixir PB - for sure, the guitar isn´t played in at the moment but imho it´s a real fine Instrument for the money! For fans of the Gibson "king of flattops", but with limited budget... "a must have!"
Not my best acoustic, but versatile, easy to play with real good sound and a wonderful appearance.... I really love her :)
