Epiphone has announced one of its most anticipated new models, the Tommy Thayer "Spaceman" Les Paul.

The new model, which is named after — and designed for — the longtime Kiss guitarist, will be available in January.

Thayer recently commented on the guitar on his website:

"I'm psyched to be playing my new guitar onstage as we embark on the 2012 Kiss Kruise and South American stadium tour in the weeks ahead," Thayer wrote.

"My signature axe will soon be available in guitar shops everywhere. In the meantime, the first guitars off the line are ready for you through some very special offers on my new site, tommythayerguitar.com. Keep it rockin' and remember to turn it up loud!"http://www.guitarworld.com/files/imce-images/Screen%20Shot%202012-11-28%20at%2010.58.56%20AM.png

Epiphone.com recently posted a demo video featuring Thayer. You can check it out below.

We'll have more details about the guitar in the weeks and months ahead.

don't have a problem with Tommy Thayer, i have a problem with this guitar being known as the "spaceman"
Ace is the only spaceman.

Eh, why wouldn't they? He's a good enough player in his own right. People just get sand in their vaginas over the fact that he isn't Ace.

It's not his fault he's not Ace, he needs a job like everybody else. If Gene walked up to me and said "we need a new guitar player, the only catch is you gotta dress like Ace every night", what am I gonna say? No thanks? Yeah right, I'd be all over that and I suspect most of us would, if not all of us.

Well said, Bertzie.:applause: I saw KISS in concert for the first time earlier this summer; he seemed pretty good to me. Until all the haters around here are in as successful a band as he is (and has been), well...:dunno:

He is a better player than Ace....but then again so are most people. I do agree that calling the guitar the 'Spaceman' is pretty insulting to Frehley who is the real spaceman.

Yeah, this is definitely another kick in the nuts for Ace, but I'm sure he's used to it by now. Besides, Ace is a rich, famous, living legend, kinda hard for me to feel sorry for him.

i'll keep my integrity and my current pay over pretending to be Ace, but that's me. like i said I'm sure Tommy's a great dude, his playing seems just fine, but he's not the Spaceman.
they could have designed some other makeup, but then again i think Ace is getting some $ for the makeup so he's got the last laugh.

I'll just go on the record here as saying that I'm prepared to impersonate ANY classic rock icon for the right amount of coin. Need a really tall, blond Jimmy Page? I'm your guy.

Want. "Jeff Beck" that's suspiciously crude at playing? I'm waiting for the call.

Need a new "Spaceman" replacement for Tommy Thayer? Have wig, will travel.

I'm even willing to play dead guys.

Exactly. I'm a HUGE Ace fan - he's the reason why I started playing guitar in the first place - but people need to get over the fact that sometimes band lineups change. KISS is a little different in that they dropped Thayer into the Spaceman costume but, still, Thayer's a damned good guitar player in his own right and you don't get to play in a band that successful if you're a slouch.
