I wanted to ask a question to get everyones opinion on Epi Pickups. I just did a pickup change in my sons Epi Les Paul, replacing the Epi 57's, and putting in Gibson 57 Classic's. Now, my son has an Epi SG Custom Shop with G-400's in it. Can you please give your feelings on which you think is the better pickup, the Epi 57's, or the Epi G-400's?

Thanks!

G-400 isn't a pickup name as far as I know. It's a guitar model that uses Epiphone Alnico V Classic pickups; which are generally the same ones you find in standard Epiphone Les Paul guitars.

Tanqueray, thanks for the reply! The pickups in the SG have a sticker on the back that says G-400, and the pickups I removed out of the Les Paul have a sticker that says 57-CH.

So is there any difference between the two? And if there is, is one better than the other? I guess that's what I'm tryiing to find out!

It sounds like they're the exact same pickups. The G-400 uses the same HOTCH and 57CH pickups that the Les Paul Standards do. Why they labeled the pickup with a sticker that says G-400 is beyond me, but that is my best guess.

There are no "right" pickups for a guitar. There are "right" pickups for you. For anyone to give you an idea of what you might like they would need to know what type of music you play,

You want Humbucker size P/U's. Try going through the info on SD's web site. They have sound clips for comparison but to me they all sound the same so I don't know how much help they would be.
