I got an Epi LP Traditional Pro with a broken headstock for $140. I attached a couple of pics. As you can see, the headstock is completely broken off, and there's a piece that sort of fits like a puzzle piece on the back, and a weird little chip off the end of the fingerboard with the nut attached. My intention is to fix this myself, and I have a couple of questions.
  • I have been told that PL Premium Adhesive is the glue to use. Do you agree?
  • If so, is that a good kind of glue to use for the fretboard chip too?
  • This break looks like it has a little less surface area than the more usual "diagonal" break. Do you expect a glue repair will be sound?
  • What kind of clamping do you suggest to apply pressure parallel (i.e., "longwise" down the neck) to the neck? Or should I just put a temporary screw in the break to keep it in place and use more conventional clamping?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

PL Premium is a good construction adhesive. I'd use Titebond for this, if it was mine. I'm not an expert at all though. In my experience with PL is that it gets brittle with age.

Thanks.

So what's the advantage of titebond over the PL? does it hold as well?

Titebond are said to be stronger than the wood itself.

Here's a video:
