Greetings MLP Forumers!

I've been lurking for a while and thought to register for help and to share my new found passion.

I've been playing for 5-6 years and have always had a deep passion for les pauls. I bit the bullet last month and bought a silverburst custom after playing it for near on 5 hours at a local store.

I've set up the guitar (it was near perfect), upgraded the switch, added some nice reflectors and just bought a set of SD Hot Rodded (JB/SH-2n) pups and a set of .22/.47 Orange Drop Caps and was looking for some wisdom and guidance before I plunged in.

I've rewired two of my strats, added a killswitch to my ibanez and replaced the pickups on my brothers squire, but in each instance I had accurate wiring schemas to help me.

With the Custom Pro, it has two coil tap/split pots as the volumes - and two tones, looking at the SD websites wiring guides, the closest I can find is one where the Tones act as the push/pull splits.

My questions are:

Where can I find an accurate wiring schematic for the new pro guitars?
Should I rewire the whole thing to match SD's wiring instructions?
Or should I just translate the wire colours and solder them in place - a direct swap if you will?

I really appreciate any help you can throw my way!

Once "Lill" is all dressed up and pretty I'll follow up with the obligatory pictures.

Thanks for reading.

Imo its a good idea to change 1 thing at a time. Firstly, if you have any problems you know which change caused it. Secondly, you can assess the improvements (or not) of each change.

Stock Epi wiring is OK but you will get the most out of your SD P/U's if you order a new harness like this one:

Well worth the money IMO.

BTW, welcome to MLP.

I dropped one of these into my Plus top Pro and couldn't be happier. Mine too had the push/pull on the volume pots but it really doesn't matter much where the push/pull is.

It's a little late to invest in a new harness now ;)

The upgrade is complete and an absolute success.

I found the colour code/comparison for Epi/Gib and SD pups and just rewired the new ones in exchanging the wires where needed.

The spragues fit in nicely and there was an immediately noticeable change in brightness of the tone.

She got a scrape and oil of the fretboard, fresh strings and the hotrods installed today.

All in all, a fantastic evening well spent.

Now my finger needs to stop bleeding so I can play some more!

I may strip the covers off the epi probuckers and slot them over the SDs.

Does this adversely effect the dynamics/tone of the guitar?

Thanks for your support :)

I installed this harness on my '12 LP Tribute Plus. It is AWESOME! Go for the tone man!

Awesome picture, goes well with your quote!

I made a simple/quick translation table of the colours to help me:

SD________Epi
Black______Red
White_____White
Red_______Green
Green_____Black
Bare______Bare

Then just went ahead and wired them up.

The caps were arguably the easiest mod I've ever done.
