for some reason my stock pups are really low output...
i didnt like the tone .. then again everybody's looking for totally different things right ?

I love my Studio. I put SD Blackouts in it. Between those pups and the maple cap on that guitar, sustain is literally endless....

I would bet that most of these guys are probably playing in their room with a 15 watt practice amp at low volume. Pearly Gates would sound 'muddy' in that case!

Thats very true. A lot of things open up when you play through a quality amp. Of course I wouldnt know. I do get to play through a VOX CC30 ever once in a while. Its pure heaven. Nothing like an all tube. NOTHING!!!!!F***ing thing makes even me sound good!!! I think more attention should be paid to what your plugged INTO not WHATS PLUGGED IN!!!!

so me and my friend was going through a tough debate...
of course i was trying to defend my Epiphone Les Paul.
he was saying that the only problem with my les paul was that the head stock says epiphone and not gibson. he told me it wasn't "legit" enough . so help me guys i dont know how to prove to him that epiphone are not trashand they sing just like gibson, i told him the pups suck... which is true stock epi pups are yucky. anyways i need help from you guys to prove him that epiphones are worthy instruments too !

In my case it's very simple.My Epiphone headstock says Gibson on the TRC.Looks legit to me.Get more mature friends.Epiphones are licenced by Gibson.I can get very close to a Gibson LP sound for a fraction of the price. It's all good imo

your very correct. Stock epi pups are very under rated and very quickly dismissed as crap. I love my stock epi pups. Why you might ask. Because they sound good. "oh it must be the pups", it must be the pups that are making my guitar sound like poop", "let me go out and spend $300 on new pups!!!!!!" Got news for you guys. It aint the pups!!!! Go get new ones, i bet your guitar still sounds pretty much the same. Imo you have to have 3 things to make your guitar sing. Good wiring. A good amp to play out of. And good hands!!!! That is where your tone comes from:d

Hmmm...I don't know. I suppose if someone wants to call another man's guitar a piece of shit, they should at least get called on it.

Distraction from the cold hard realities of life, for me anyway. I think you may have taken my post in the other thread inversely from how I meant it. I was paraphrasing the quote "I made a fortune, but spent almost all of it on wine, women and song - and wasted the rest." (or something like that)

But isn't avoiding the cold, hard, realities of life in essence.....a waste of time when one could be spending their time planning, and objectively executing plans and taking great effort in advancing in that cold, hard life?

I'm actually interested in this conversation, for a myriad of reasons. No matter how one slices it, for the majority of the population, (no, let's face it, everyone..) music unto itself, even if it does take effort, is essentially...entertainment, isn't it? You're either entertaining yourself, passing away idle hours, or entertaining someone else who has need or desire of a diversion.

But isn't this all essentially...wasting one's time?

And if it is...is the act of collecting, or for that matter playing music or even listening to it...a waste of time? What purpose does it serve towards the grindstone?

Hah, maybe you should tell him Epi is releasing a 5k guitar too. Also I will garuntee you, that you can pick up any stock Gibson Les Paul or SG Standard, and play my Epiphone and the Gibson Standard and mine will sound better without a doubt.

As somebody had mentioned previously tone is subjective, so what you may like others may not.

However, I own several epis, including elitists and although good guitars for the money they do not compare to ANY of my gibsons. In fact everyone of the luthiers that has touched my guitars has tried to buy my Gibsons.

I would gladly have a third party evaluate our guitars and have winner take all!
