I didn't know what emo was either until it became a phenomenon here. :laugh2: I had seen ads in the musicians wanted sections of craigslist and the free press, but I had no idea what it meant. :D

Fugazi sucks ass

I think there is a coloration between country music and emo. They both sound like a bitch fest about everything that sucks in their life. The difference is that in country they just go get drunk and in emo they slit there wrist.

Summed up:
Its one thing to be a bitch, it's another to be a bitch-ass.

Oh, and all the bands that were listed at the end of the Wiki article suck in so many ways that they make even emo look good. One of my favorite blogs I ever read was where the singer from guttermouth got kicked off the warpped tour because he kept harrasing the racoon faced kid from MCR.

I guess you mean a correlation, not coloration :laugh2:

The way I see it, the country guys generally appeal to the common man with problems regular people can relate to. Listen to George Jones after a rough breakup with a bottle of JD, and you know exactly where he's coming from. The emo guys, however, seem to appeal to teens that can't deal with life, or any problems they run into. Cutting yourself is not the answer...

I guarantee you, you listen to a band that rips off something cool that Fugazi did. Fugazi is not that kind of emo at all, definitely not emo in a cliche Hawthorne Heights, I cut myself kind of way. You don't know what your talking about.

I'm sorry all bands can't be super-leet rockstars and have all their songs about partying and banging chicks.

Im sorry capt'n, but I grew up in the punk scene. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Most of the bands that I was into never had a hit song, and definently didnt sing about banging chicks. At the same time they didnt sing about how bad their life sucks either.

Fugazi was considered punk in the mid 90's. I thought they sucked ass then as well. I had freinds that liked them, well one at least.

There are still alot of music from that era that I enjoy. Some of those bands have even put out some good stuff latley.

But that was my tenage angst days. I feel as if I have grown up a little bit now. I now find tallent a little more rewarding than three chords and some screams.

You will get to grow up some day too.

I get it. I'm emo and didn't intend to be or even know I am. At least I am down in this hole where I can get some worms.

I like 30STM. They're considered Emo, right? Does that make me Emo?!

That's my favorite band :)
They're technically considered Alternative but people call them emo just because they scream sometimes.
But you got good taste in music :D

Just the other day a car went by blasting Life of Agony. Hadn't heard them in ages. I always considered them to be some NY hardcore band, I did like the guitars back then. Thinking about that. They were pretty emo too considering what I remember from their lyrics. Does anybody remember those guys?

Pardon this old fart who wasn't raised during the Punk Era, although I saw many punk bands in my day, I'm still a little confused about the connection between Emo and Hardcore.

"When there’s no future how can there be sin
We’re the flowers in the dustbin
We’re the poison in your human machine
We’re the future your future

God save the queen we mean it man
There is no future in england’s dreaming

No future for you no future for me
No future no future for you "

Now would these be considered Emo lyrics?

No,,, IMO that would still be punk...

Jeff
PS The entire song by The Sex Pistols:
God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
Potential H-bomb

God save the queen
She ain't no human being
There is no future
In England's dreaming

Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future, no future,
No future for you

God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves

God save the queen
'Cause tourists are money
And our figurehead
Is not what she seems

Oh God save history
God save your mad parade
Oh Lord God have mercy
All crimes are paid

When there's no future
How can there be sin
We're the flowers in the dustbin
We're the poison in your human machine
We're the future, your future

God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves

God save the queen
We mean it man
And there is no future
In England's dreaming

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future,
No future for me

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future
For you

I understand the political aspect of 'God Save the Queen'. But the whole no future rant seems to be where the two (Emo + Punk) meet. Is that correct?

I would agree.. emo just takes that a step further, IMO. Hey I could be wrong but I find the emo thing to be a waste of time. Just another way to categorize music. If you look up some bands on Wiki.. they're listed as being as many as 4 styles of music.. WTF?? I guess I just don't get it.

Jeff
