EMG wiring / mod options for better pot control?

I have an HSS strat with a Steve L loaded EMG pickguard. Electronics are good and it seems to have much more control over volume and tone than my other EMG guitar…..

……A M2M 81/85 EMG equipped Custom Les Paul. It it either on or off, zero tone or volume / gain control.

Assuming it’s a pot issue, what are good recommendations to help with this or are there any other mods to the wiring I should consider. I know they don’t behave like passive, they don’t need to, but I feel like it’s missing something.

Sounds like the EMG setup in your Gibson may have linear pots. See if they are marked on the backs and if they are linear switch them out to some audio taper pots which will have a smoother taper.
