The first thing you need to do if you haven't learned already is all of the pentatonic positions, major and minor. Once you have those listen to A LOT of recordings. Some songs and albums that are great that I learned a lot from where

Super Sessions by Mike bloomfield and Al Kooper
The whole Hard Road album by John mayall with Peter Green
From the cradle by Clapton
Early Fleetwood mac stuff(with peter green)
The three kings(bb king, Freddie King, and Albert king),
Albert king was one of stevie's huge influences
Allman Brothers
the list goes on and on
If ur looking for stevie licks try steviesnacks.com

Their are also a ton of great players on here( YouTube - skydog46's Channel , YouTube - StowBurst's Channel , and YouTube - lespaul10's Channel ) their are also many others, but just remember to have fun with it and it takes time

You said:

Five main minor, eight (or so) major, depending upon where you start and the root note.

Then turn to the Guitar Grimoire (the one entitled 'scales and modes'), to add. by the time you are part way through the first Guitar Grimoire, you will have left your two minor scales well enough behind.

Bear in mind: this is about you and your tolerance for hard work. What I am talking about is much easier to describe than do.

just listen to Albert King, Wes Mongomery, T-Bone walker and Otis rush

then learn those licks note for note and play them 5 times faster and you got SRV in a nutshell

SRV technic: play the first blues scale over the chord chnages.

so for A you play first blues scale at fret 5 for D you play fret 10 For E you play fret 12 etc and etc
